Sugarbeeters Tyler Schoen, Wyatt Dunbar 4th at State B/C

Chinook sophomore Tyler Schoen wrestled his way to a fourth place finish in the 170 pound weight class at the Montana State B/C Wrestling Championship in Shelby this past weekend.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters and Harlem Wildcats each qualified three wrestlers for the Montana State B/C Wrestling Tournament in Shelby this past weekend. Representing the Sugarbeeters and finishing fourth in the 170 pound weight class was sophomore Tyler Schoen. Junior Wyatt Dunbar also earned a spot on the podium for the Sugarbeeters, finishing fourth at 285 pounds. Junior Drake Berreth also competed for the 'Beeters in Shelby.

The Wildcats were represented on the big stage at the state tournament by senior Lance Blackcrow who picked up a pair of wins in the 182 pound division over the weekend. Junior Mikkel Rider won a match for the Wildcats at 205 pounds. Junior Darrius Longknife competed for the Wildcats at 145 pounds in Shelby.

Schoen began his state tournament with a pin of Aidan Tollefson (Florence-Carlton) in 2:39. Schoen then took down Huntley Project's William Loveridge with a 5-4 Decision to advance to the semifinal round. Eventual state champion Austin Vanek of Cut Bank pinned Schoen in 0:51. In the consolation semifinal it was Schoen earning win by pin at 2:19 over Dakota Holbrook (Broadus to advance to the consolation final. Schoen dropped a tough 9-3 Decision to Cylar White (White Sulphur Springs) to finish fourth.


Dunbar started his state tournament with a win over Florence-Carlton's McKay Young by pin at 4:58. In the quarterfinal round, Dunbar picked up a 3-2 Decision over Leo Scafani (Whitehall) to advance to the 285 pound semifinal. Dunbar was pinned by Glasgow's Mayson Phillips in 3:09. In the consolation semifinal Dunbar pinned Brock Hanford (Fort Benton/Big Sandy) in 2:26. Dunbar would finish fourth after falling to Malta's Jaden Keeling by fall, 4:14 in the consolation final.


Overall the Sugarbeeters finished 19th in the 40 team tournament with 32 points and in a tie for 3rd amongst Class C Schools. Harlem finished tied for 33rd with 10 points.

170 Lbs Tyler Schoen (24-4) Placed 4th and scored 16.0 team points. Champ. Round 1 - Won by fall over Aidan Tollefson (Florence-Carlton) 2:39; Quarterfinal - Won by 5-4 Decision over William Loveridge (Huntley Project); Semifinal - Lost to Austin Vanek (Cut Bank) by fall 0:51; Cons. Semi - Won by fall over Dakota Holbrook (Broadus) 2:19; 3rd Place Match - Cylar Taylor (White Sulphur Springs) by 9-3 Decision.


285 Lbs. Wyatt Dunbar (20-8) Placed 4th and scored 16.0 team points. Champ. Round 1 - Won by fall over Mckay Young (Florence-Carlton) 4:58; Quarterfinal - Won by 3-2 Decision over Leo Scafani (Whitehall); Semifinal - Lost to Mayson Phipps (Glasgow) by fall 3:09; Cons. Semi - Won by fall over Brock Hanford (Fort Benton/Big Sandy) 2:26; 3rd Place Match - Lost to Jaden Keeling (Malta/Whitewater) by fall 4:14.

- Harlem Wildcats -

145 Lbs. Darrius Longknife (5-14) Champ. Round 1 - Lost to Eli Ratliff (Thompson Falls/Noxon) by fall 1:42; Cons. Round 1 - Lost to Jace Oxarart (Boulder) by fall 1:29.

Sugarbeeter junior Wyatt Dunbar also earned a spot on the podium, finishing fourth in the 285 pound division.

182 Lbs Lance Blackcrow (11-8) Champ. Round 1 - Lance Won by fall over Braeden Jones (Boulder) 1:04; Quarterfinal - Lost to Stran Selman (Huntley Project) by fall 0:53; Cons. Round 2 - Won by fall over Gable Davis (Red Lodge) 2:56; Cons. Round 3 - Lost to Mason Garfield (Wolf Point) by fall 2:24.

205 Lbs. Mikkel Rider (7-11) Champ. Round 1 - Lost to Carter Morgan (Choteau) by fall 0:50; Cons. Round 1 - Won by fall over Brady Pleninger (Fort Benton/Big Sandy) 3:30; Cons. Round 2 - Lost to Johnny Fehr (Eureka) by fall 2:25.
