After a week off, Harlem and Chinook Swim Teams Return to the Pool

Harlem's Andrew Rasmussen won the Boys 15-19 High Point Trophy in Plentywood this past weekend.

After taking a week off to celebrate Independence Day and spend the Fourth of July weekend with family and friends, the Chinook Lions ans Harlem Swim Teams were back in the pool this past weekend. Swimmers had the option to head east and swim in Plentywood or go west to compete in Fort Benton with most choosing the latter.

The Montana Federation of Swimmers summer season is quickly winding down with just three meets left on the schedule.

The lone swimmer traveling east was Harlem's Andrew Rasmussen. In returning to the pool where he won his first High Point Trophy, the senior swimmer left winning another one as well.

Rasmussen won the 15-19 Boys 400 Meter Freestyle, swimming the 16 lengths of the pool in just 5:19.11. He began the finals with a win in the 50 Meter Freestyle, touching the wall in :26.84. In between the two events Andrew added a win in the 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:15.79.


In Fort Benton, Chinook's Katie Tilleman was spectacular. Tilleman not only won the girls 11-12 High Point by winning all three of her individual events, she also set new pool records in all three as well.

Katie took home gold in the 50 Meter Freestyle, setting the new record with a time of :30.35 in the preliminary round and winning her finals swim with a time of :30.45.

Katie's second record came in 50 Meter Breaststroke with a time of :40.55. Tillman's third record of the meet came in the 50 Meter Backstroke, setting the new standard at :37.06.

The Lions Daniel Tilleman also turned in an outstanding performance while breaking records along the way as well. Joining him in the record breaking process was Harlem's Shayne Stiffarm.


The pair combined to win six individual events with each winning three. In addition they also each set a pair of new pool records while sharing the 13-14 Boys High Point Trophy.

Daniel set the new record in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of :27.91 in the prelims and won the event with a finals time of :28.44. Tilleman also established a new mark in the 200 Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:34.96. His third win came in the 100 Meter Freestyle with an effort of 1:05.79.

Stiffarm set the new record in the 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:10.37. Shayne established a new standard in the 50 Meter Butterfly as well with a time of :30.33. Stiffarm began his finals performance with a win in the 200 Meter Individual Medley, completing the four disciplines in 2:48.39 to win the event.


Chinook's Mariah Huravitch won the 8 and Under girls 100 Meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:36.63. Brockton Elliot earned three runner up finishes in the boys 13-14 division as well.

This weekend the Chinook and Harlem swim teams are scheduled to be in Sidney or Choteau depending on which direction they choose to go. The post season starts the following week with the Eastern Divisional in Lewistown July 24-25. Swimmers will be looking to turn in their best times and qualify for the State Swim Meet in Columbia Falls, July 31 - August 1. The top 12 swimmers in each event will qualify for the state meet.

Shayne Stiffarm brought home a High Point for Harlem as well, winning his at the Fort Benton Swim Meet. Congratulations to both.
