Blaine County Library

October 13, 2021

During the month of October, we are having a “Spooktacular” Book Sale! We will give you a big bag and you can put as many books as you can fit in it for $3.00. We also have boxes and boxes of Harlequin romances we will make a deal on, and Kelsey says she will load them in your car!

There will not be LEGO Club or an early out movie next week, due to the MEA Conference.

Last week Donna Miller wrote a newspaper article about the Code Girls United program we are planning to start at the library November 3, 2021, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. We are looking for anyone who may have knowledge about coding and/or business experience who can spare an hour a week during the school year. Even if you can’t commit to the full school year, we can work around your schedule. One community has a high school student teaching the first 8 weeks, where the girls learn about writing code and then they have several different business owners coming in to do the other classes. Training materials are provided by Code Girls United. You can get more information about the program on their website codegirlsunited.org.

The registration is open to girls in grades 4 through 8 and between the ages of ten and fourteen. Girls must be no older than 14 on August 1, 2022. The program is free for girls and all materials will be supplied. There will be an opportunity to compete in National competitions and be awarded scholarships. Girls can register online now by going to codegirlsunited.org. On the home page under the registration tab, select Chinook and fill out the form. If you are interested in helping or know someone who could help us, please call the library at 357-2932 or send an email to blcolib@itstriangle.com.

We’d like to send a shout out to Kenny Finley for donating the proceeds from his Pumpkin Patch to the library again this year! Thank you to everyone who came out to the Pumpkin Patch and donated. It is so wonderful to live in such a generous community. Proceeds from the Pumpkin patch will be used for children’s programs. Harper Zellmer and Brynn Brennan were the lucky winners of our drawings.

“Crossroads” by Jonathan Franzen is the story of a Midwestern family at a pivotal moment of moral crisis. “The Wish” by Nicholas Sparks is a novel about the enduring legacy of first love, and the decisions that haunt us forever. “Love on the Range” by Mary Connealy is book three in the Brothers in Arms series. “Harlem Shuffle” by Colson Whitehead is an entertaining novel of heists, shakedowns, and rip-offs set in Harlem in the 1960s. How well do you really know your neighbors? That is the question in “The Neighbor’s Secret” by L. Alison Heller.
