The Harlem Library is sponsoring “The Great Pumpkin Contest” to celebrate Halloween! The challenge is to decorate a pumpkin as a favorite book character. You may use any type of craft materials including markers, paint, glitter, fabric, yarn, etc. or the pumpkin may be carved. The pumpkins must be submitted to the Harlem Library by October 27, 6 P.M. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: ages 1-8; ages 9-14; and ages 15 and older. The pumpkin entries will be on display at the library October 28-November 3.

The Book Challenge for October is to read a weather-related book or a story where weather is an important part of the plot. We have a selection of titles on display for you to choose from. You may win a gift certificate from a local business.

The Book Club’s new selection “The Book of Secrets” by Elizabeth Joy Arnold may be picked up this week. The first discussion will be Monday, October 18, 4 P.M. in the library meeting room.

“The Personal Librarian” is a new historical fiction selection by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. This is the remarkable story of Belle da costa Greene, the Black American woman who was forced to hide her true identity and pass as white while working as the personal librarian of J.P Morgan.

Two new nonfiction books are “Everything You Wanted to Know about Indians But Were Afraid to Ask” by Anton Treuer and “Native Women: Changing Their World” by Patricia J. Cutright.

Robin Cook’s latest medical thriller is “Viral.” “Forgotten in Death” is the new Eve Dallas homicide detective novel by J.D. Robb.

Storytime for little ones ages 0-5 with their parents/caregivers is held on Tuesdays at 10 A.M. After School Squad for grade school students meets on Wednesdays at 3:30. There will be NO Lego Club on October 14 and October 21. Lego Club will resume on October 28, 4:30 P.M.

The library has information on the Talking Book Library for those residents who no longer read standard print materials due to vision loss, physical limitations, or reading difficulties. The Talking Book Library, located in Helena, offers free access to digital audio and Braille materials including books and magazines.
