Registration Opens for Women's Conference

January 12, 2022

Registration for the 2022 Montana Farmers Union Women's Conference is now open. For nearly a decade, the women of Montana Farmers Union have gathered for personal and professional development. This year's event will be held at Fairmont Hot Springs in Anaconda from February 4-6. Event registration closes on January 19.

The annual February event is well-known for its popular hot springs venue and its diverse array of speakers. With a focus on sharing stories, developing business-mindedness, and building healthy habits, members will come together this year to share farming and ranching practices while celebrating the big picture theme of connection.

Two of the event organizers, Rachel Prevost and Violet Green invite women from across the state for a conference where they will not only celebrate together but work on building community and forming new connections. In addition to the various breakout sessions, panelists, and presenters, the registration fee covers lodging, food, access to the hot springs, and three keynote speakers.

As one of the program planners, Prevost reported: "We are really excited about all of the content that is planned and hope to provide a chance for women to celebrate each other, agriculture, and rural communities. I am most looking forward to all the awesome speakers, presenters, and panelists we have lined up to talk about their ag operations, mental and physical health, rural communities, and so much more. I am especially excited to hear from our three keynote speakers."

Friday's featured speaker will be Becca Skinner, a National Geographic Young Explorer based out of Bozeman, Montana. A photographer and a writer, Skinner focuses on the intersection of conservation and adventure storytelling, anchored on the importance of protecting the places we explore.

On Saturday, February 5, Amanda Nigg, a 'Farm Fit Momma' with Farm Fit Training, will deliver the morning's keynote address. About her message, Nigg stated: "I found my true professional purpose after I discovered life is too short to do anything other than what gets you out of bed in the morning. After my family's forever home burned down, fitness saved my life. It was a space to keep mentally healthy while dealing with a ton of stress and turmoil. I want everyone to feel the peace that comes with a healthy mind and body."

Finally, Saturday evening's keynoter will be Amber Smith, a leader with

Women in Ranching. Smith has been living and working in rural, western America for the past two decades. During the last three years, the Women in Ranching organization has provided her a platform "to connect and support, educate and inspire a dynamic, resilient network of women who steward our lands, raise our families, and care deeply for ranching communities."

Women in Ranching is a program of the Western Landowners Alliance, the voice of stewardship in the American West. At its core, the organization believes that "investing in women means investing in strong rural communities, improved land stewardship, and increased collaborative and creative approaches in the West."

According to their Facebook Page, the organization works to secure a future for both people and wildlife. They nurture a culture of ranching that acknowledges, celebrates, and uplifts the diversity of the land's stewards. "Today, there are more women inheriting, acquiring, managing, studying, and in other ways stepping up and out as leaders in agriculture," an organization spokesperson expressed.

Before the January 19 registration deadline, interested women can register for the 2022 Montana Farmers Union (MFU) Women's Conference by following the registration link online at montanafarmersunion.com. At that website, speaker details, as well as an agenda, are also available on the Events page.

Anyone seeking additional information or requiring assistance with registration is encouraged to contact Prevost or Green, who work in Member Services at MFU. The MFU office phone number is 406-452-6406.

In final words about the conference, Prevost said: "It's a jam packed schedule, so attendees have so much opportunity to really learn, network, and connect with each other and our presenters. We also have an awesome planning committee who has helped shape what this conference will be all about, and we are very grateful for all their work!"
