The Turner Tornadoes have had some tough luck to start the District 9C schedule, but each time they take the court their opponent needs to be ready. Friday the Tornadoes were in Big Sandy to take on the Pioneers. Saturday the boys headed to Gildford to challenge the Knights in another District 9C showdown.

Turner has a couple of non conference wins to their credit but began the week still looking to find their first conference win of the season. The Pioneers would be a tough test as they entered as the District 9C’s top team.

Sophomore Ryan Doyle found his mark from distance and scored 11 first half points for the Tornadoes. Turner as a team scored 22 and trailed the Pioneers 47-22 at halftime.

Doyle added another triple down the stretch freshman Carson Maloney connected twice from distance, but it wasn’t enough to bring the Tornadoes back. In the end it was just too much for Turner to overcome in a 74-52 setback. Doyle paced the attack with 18 points while Maloney finished with 17.

Saturday in Gildford the Tornadoes were much more competitive but unfortunately the result was very much the same. Senior Shay Humphreys helped Turner get off to a good start with a couple of three balls early on. Doyle added a long ball of his own and five points powering Turner to a 13-12 lead heading into the second quarter.

North Star responded with a big second quarter, limiting the Tornado offense to just seven points to take a 29-20 halftime lead.

Doyle connected once again from beyond the arc in the third quarter and scored seven. Senior Trevor Kimmel added a long ball to power the Turner offense to 14 points in the quarter. The Knights put 21 on the board to expand their lead over Turner to 50-34 with eight minutes remaining.

Turner continued to attack the basket and get to the charity stripe, but it was too little too late and the Knights lead was too much to come back from. At the final horn it was North Star picking up the eleven point win over the Tornadoes 59-48.

Doyle led the Turner attack with 15 points in the contest. Humphreys finished with a pair of triples and 10 points while Kimmel added nine to the Tornado effort.

Turner will welcome the Fort Benton Longhorns to town on Friday and the head west to Chester on Saturday to face the Hawks.
