Taxpayers May See a Bond Proposal on May's Ballot

January 26, 2022

The Friends of the Pool and Park Foundation will be holding a variety of meetings during the month of February. The purpose of these events is to answer any questions people may have or to clarify any concerns about the Foundation's projects and improvement plans.

The first meeting will occur on Thursday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m. on Facebook Live. At this event, the group will showcase their plans for the Chinook Pool and Park and provide detailed insight into what it is they are working towards.

A second meeting, this one available as a Zoom meeting, will occur on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. A third in-person meeting is slated for Sunday, February 20 at 2:00 in the afternoon at the Chinook Senior Center.

President of the organization, Heather DePriest explained that due to the project's immense cost, the Foundation has plans for placing a bond on the ballot and putting the project to the taxpayers' vote in May of 2022.

"This proposed bond will be for two million dollars and will be created through a Recreation District. The Recreation District will be a separate board of individuals that will meet once per year for any improvements that need to be made to the parks and recreation areas of Chinook. Our goal is to create a sustainable group that will ensure that Chinook's Parks and Recreation continue for generations. The entire pool/park project will cost 3.3 million, and we are seeking a bond for two million, where we will fundraise for the remaining 1.3 million. We encourage people to attend our meetings and provide valuable feedback," DePriest stated.
