Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, Two Contested Local Races

The 2022 General election takes place this Tuesday, November 8. Certainly many Blaine County Voters have already filled out their ballots and mailed them back in as part of the early/absentee voting process, but for many they will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their vote in a couple of local races as well as a handful of state and federal races along with a few ballot initiatives.

Locally, voters will cast their vote in District #2 for Blaine County Commissioner. Shane Fox, Republican defeated incumbent Frank DePriest in the June Primary and will face Todd Jorgensen, Democrat in Tuesday's election to fill the seat. Jorgensen ran unopposed in the June Primary. Incumbent John Colby, Democrat is on the Ballot for Blaine County Sheriff and is being challenged by Write-In Candidate Kevin Spudic.

Blaine County voters will also be casting ballots to reelect positions where the incumbent is the only candidate. For Blaine County Clerk and Recorder, incumbent Pauly Miller, Republican is the only name listed. Other positions being ran unopposed are Tori MacLean Desrosier, Democrat for Blaine County Treasurer. Kelsey Harwood, Democrat for Blaine County Attorney and Valerie White, Republican for Blaine County Superintendent of Schools. Also on the ballot will be Blaine County Justice of the Peace where voters will have the choice to vote Yes/No retaining Perry Miller.


Voters will have a say in the race for State Representative District 33 where Jordan Ophus, Democrat and Casey James Knudsen, Republican square off. Jim Rice and Bill D'Alton will vie for Supreme Court Justice #1 in a Non-Partisan race. Ingrid Gustafson and James Brown are on the ballot for Supreme Court Justice #2. Randy Pinocci is running unopposed in the race for Public Service Commission District 1.


In the lone National Race four candidates will vie for the seat of United States Representative, Second Congressional District. Candidates include Sam Rankin, Libertarian, Penny Ronning, Democrat, Matt Rosendale, Republican and Gary Buchanan, Independent.

Ballot issues include Constitutional Amendment No.48. C-48 is a constitutional amendment to amend Article II, section 11 of the Montana Constitution to specifically protect electronic data and communications from unreasonable search and seizures. Voters will vote Yes/No on the issue.

Also on the ballot is Legislative Referendum No. 131. This Act legally protects born-alive infants by imposing criminal penalties on health care providers who do not act to preserve the life of such infants, including infants born during an attempted abortion. A born-alive infant is entitled to medically appropriate care and treatment. A health care provider shall take medically appropriate and reasonable actions to preserve the life and health of a born-alive infant. A born-alive infant means an infant who breathes, has a beating heart, or has definite movement of voluntary muscles, after the complete expulsion or extraction from the mother. A health care provider found guilty of failing to take medically appropriate and reasonable actions to preserve a born-alive infant's life under this Act faces punishment of a fine up to $50,000 or imprisonment up to 20 years, or both.


If you are not currently registered to vote or are not sure if your voter registration is up to date simple go to https://app.mt.gov/voterinfo/ to check the 'My Voter Page'. Regular registration closes 30 days before the election, however, you can still register and vote in the election by late registration by stopping by the Blaine County Election Office on the second floor of the Blaine County Courthouse. Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm and complete a registration form. Late registration closes at noon on the day before an election, but according to the election website it will not be enforced and registration can continue on election day.
