Catherine "Crum" Doney

November 2, 2022

Catherine Doney 62, was born on February 15, 1960 to Eugene "Happy" Doney and Esther Doney at Fort Belknap Hospital.

She quietly walked into the arms of Jesus on October 25, 2022 in Havre, MT at Northern Montana Care Center.

"Crum" as she was known by, attended school at Hays Elementary, St. Paul's Mission Grade School and Hays/Lodge Pole High School.

Crum was a full time mother, giving birth to Brandon in 1977, who preceded her in death September 18, 2022. She and Lee Manuel had four more children.

She loved her children more than anything, and then she had grandchildren and loved them more, she always made sure they were fed and clothed every day. They looked like they were going to town, the way they were fixed up so dandy. She always made sure they were fed, and you never heard them say, "I'm hungry."

When she was young, she had so many friends. She socialized quite often and that is why people have good memories of her. She was passionate and you didn't want to be on the wrong side of Crum. She would knock you for a loop.

Crum was a lucky gambler, too. She played bingo and would often win the blackout or winner take all, and the pots were big. She played the machines and would win $800, or whatever the top prize was. Everyone knew she was a lucky gambler.

She was a traveling wolf, too. She went to Seattle with her sister, Karlene and loved those trips. They visited Tulalip Casino, and they even went to Bingo at Puyallup. While in Spokane, she even went with Vivian Dumont Welliver and her daughter to the Northern Quest Casino. Although she didn't win that time, she made it to one of the biggest casinos in the northwest. She went to Dave Smith in Kellogg ID and came back in a new van. She often talked about those trips with fondness.

Everyone in Hays always ended up at the "Crumden". She had a corral in her field and her sons were always wrangling and breaking horses, All the kids in Hays went over there to get a piece of the action or just to hang out there. She would sit in front of her house and wonder who those kids were. She was very glad and proud to have all those kids hanging around her, every time someone saw her, they would go hug her, at the store, school, clinic, or anyplace they saw her. The young people were so fond of her because she was so humble and gladly took them into her house or over at the corral, her favorite little cowboy was her grandson, Kenneth Hoops. She thought the world of him, and often spoke of his cowboy ways.

Her health issues became worse when she was older and slowed her down, and her faith in God was renewed. She said, "l pray every day." She sadly, had to go to the Care Center in Havre in the Spring of 2022, where she passed. Her health deteriorated quickly. No matter how sick and old she was, her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends thought the world of Crum. There will never be another like her.

She was preceded in death by her 3 sons, Thomas Lee manuel, Dusty Lee Manuel, and Brandon Doney, her parents, Happy and Esther Doney, brothers, Jasper Cochran, Davie Jr, Hooker, Peanut Cochran, Buzz Cochran, Basil Doney, Ronald Doney, Sanford Doney, Curtis Doney, George Cochran, sisters, Claire Cochran, Betty Jean Doney, Evelyn, and Judy Kay Cochran, and grandchildren Johnny and Jimbo Manuel.

She is survived by her children, Johnny and Jessie Manuel, grandchildren, Lola, Jeff, and Wij Manuel, Kenneth Hoops, Darryl Doney, Jacob Longfox, Xavier Hawley, Jakoda Manuel, Jaden Manuel, Taliyah Manuel, Trydell Manuel, Mackenzie, Kylee, White Plume, Melody, Suzanna and Kathy Manuel, Danielle, Taylee, Dani Messerly, Eugene Doney, Rock Gibert, Abigayle Deserly, And her siblings, Ervin Doney and Karlene Cochran.
