Bear Paw Giant Downhill and Zombie Stroll

The Bear Paw Giant Downhill and Zombie Stroll on Saturday, Oct. 29, delivered on its promise as several finishers admitted recording personal best times.

A total of nine runners and 17 zombie strollers enjoyed sunny 55-degree weather with a slight tail wind.

Mason Gregoire of Havre led the 5K men with a time of 19 minutes and 13 seconds, followed by Rowdy Doney in 22:38.

Ashlyn Ford of Chinook, who placed second overall, won the women's 5K in 19:42, followed by Una Ford in 21:38.

Gary Lavenger topped the 5-milers, who raced from the ski hill parking lot to the entrance to the Chippewa Cree Recreation Area, in a time of 34:48. Lavenger said he improved his 5-mile time by more than 3 minutes. Charles Brown was a close second among the men in 34:57, followed by Andrew Lorang in 36:45 and Jacob Lorang in 40:17.

The lone distaff runner was Christina Hoppe, who completed the course in 38:28. Weather was a beautiful 55 degrees above and the sun was shining.

Every entrant received a free t-shirt and assurances that the run would be repeated in the future.

"We are looking forward to having the event again next year and making it bigger," Favel said.
