February 8, 2023

On Thursday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m., Anthony Wood will be discussing his book “Black Montana: Settler Colonialism and the Erosion of the Racial Frontier, 1877-1930”, which was a 2022 Stubbendieck Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize Finalist. Wood achieved PhD candidacy from the Department of History at the University of Michigan in 2020. He worked as a historian for the Montana Historical Society on Montana’s African American Heritage Places Project. The presentation is sponsored by Humanities Montana and is free and open to the public!

Valentine’s Day isn’t the only reason love is in the February air— it’s also National Library Lover’s Month! The entire month of February is dedicated to celebrating libraries, librarians, book lovers and lovers of libraries. We encourage you to stop in this month and tell us why you Love Your Library! We will have drawings for door prizes at the end of the month. Elle has put together “Blind Date with a Book” displays for February. Black History Month is also in February and we have a display of books to celebrate that as well.

We have several historical fiction novels available this week. In “What I Would Tell You” by Liz Tolsma, a Greek Jewish woman’s greatest dream has become her worst nightmare, and now she faces an impossible choice whose consequences echo across the generations. “The Girl from Guernica” by Karen Robards is a riveting story of love, intrigue, deception, and bravery in the face of war. “The Second Life of Mirielle West” by Amanda Skenandore is based on the little-known true story of America’s only leper colony. It vividly brings to life the Louisiana institution known as Carville, where thousands of people were stripped of their civil rights, branded as lepers, and forcibly quarantined throughout the entire 20th century.

Black Adam and The Woman King are two movies ready for checkout this week. We have one non-fiction book available. “Artisan Sourdough Made Simple” by Emilie Raffa is a beginner’s guide to delicious, handcrafted bread with minimal kneading, and all you need is flour, water and salt to get started!

Just a reminder to parents, preschool aged children are welcome at LEGO Club and Early out Movies, but they must be accompanied by an adult, and the adult needs to stay with the kiddo during the program. Sometimes the little ones have a hard time sitting through a program or movie and it becomes distracting to the others.
