“A Council of Fools” is written by Mona Susan Power. This novel tells the tale of three extraordinary women, told in part through the stories of the dolls they carried: Sissy, born in 1961; Lillian, born in 1925; and Cora, born in 1888. From the midcentury metropolis of Chicago to the windswept lands of the Dakhota people to the brutal Indian boarding schools this novel weaves a spell of love and healing.

Ann Patchett is the author of “Tom Lake.” Lara’s three daughters return to the family orchard in northern Michigan. They beg their mother to share the story of Peter Duke, the famous actor with whom she shared a romance at a theater company called Tom Lake. As they learn of their mother’s past, the girls examine their own lives and are forced to reframe their understanding of the world they thought they knew.

“Beast of the Earth” is by James Wade. Harlem LeBlanc, the Carter Hills High School grounds keeper, has his routine upset by an act of violence. As the town searches for answers, LeBlanc sets out on his own to clear his friend. The law then sets their sights on him as he must fend off unwelcome calls for a sterner form of justice.

Other new titles include “An Evil Heart” by Linda Castillo, “Tom Clancy – Weapons Grade” by Don Bentley and “Windfall” by Wendy Corsi Staub.
