The Fort Belknap Indian Community General Election Certification was released on Tuesday, November 7. The Inauguration and Swearing In Ceremony was held, Wednesday, November 8 at the Red Whip Center and is available to view on Fort Belknap’s Facebook page.
Fort Belknap Indian Council (FBIC) with two (2) two-year terms.
The River Assiniboine District Representative featured two candidates, with Donald “Duck” Horn receiving 178 votes, while Felicia Mount Messerly wasn’t far behind with 162 votes cast her way. Horn and Messerly will both be seated.
The Mountain Assiniboine District Representative field included four candidates. Leading the way was Randi R. Wing Fetter with 82 votes. Tim R. Bierle received 63 votes to narrowly defeat Tyler Allen with 62 votes and Brian Wing with 59 votes. Fetter and Bierle were seated.
In the contest for Assiniboine At Large Representative (Assiniboine Voters), it was John A. Allen topping the list with 358 while Curtis Horn received 257 votes. The Assiniboine At Large Representative race was voted on by both tribes. George J. Ball won the race with 706, Tracy Chin King received 672 votes and will also serve.
The River Gros Ventre Representative race went to Cecelia “Boppers” Shortman with 227 votes. Dominic R. Messerly finished with 172 votes cast for her. In the race for Mountain Gros Ventre Representative, it was Randall “Butch” Werk leading the way with 240 votes; Cody Shambo finished second and received 139 votes.
The Gros Ventre At Large Representative race, voted on by Gross Ventre members, only went to Blake Stiffarm with 468 votes. Mike “Gopher” Fox finished second with 309 votes received. Both tribes elected the other, Gros Ventre at Large Representative, with Stephen “Shelly” Fox edging Geno V. LeValdo for the top spot, 694-687.
The Election Results were Certified and Attested to by FBIC Election Committee members Margaret Nicholson, Timothy W. Doney, Verena L. Walls and Gina Rae Helgeson.
