This field antenna (taller device) and GPS antenna (smaller) are part of a nationwide system for lightning strike detection being installed by a European weather information service. The antennae are mounted on the Chinook fire hall and the Volunteer Fire Department will have access to data regarding location and intensity of strikes, giving firefighters a heads up on potential problem areas for wildfires.
