Photos from: Locals participate in Active Shooter Response Training

Steve Edwards

A simulated active shooter, left of photo, automatically flinches and loses his ability to acquire targets when potential victims throw rubber balls at him and then rush him. Counter strategies, such as this move to 'distract and interrupt,' were taught and demonstrated in an active shooter response training class sponsored by the Blaine County Sheriff's Office. In a classroom students could throw book bags, purses, books and cell phones to interrupt a shooter's ability to acquire a target.
