The Polebridge Mercantile was built in 1914 to serve settlers in an area just west of Glacier Park along the North Fork of the Flathead River. Still "off the grid," the settlement is gaining interest from tourists. The area's winters are characterized as "some of the most intense in the lower 48 states" and only about 10 residents live there year round. A mostly gravel 40 mile access road also dampens some enthusiasm to visit Polebridge.
