This view is looking east down through old section of Main Street in Deadwood, South Dakota. In 1961 the entire town was designated a National Historic Landmark because of its history as a mining camp and pioneer village. In 1989 Deadwood legalized gambling which likely saved the town but also put additional pressure to save historic places in the old mining town.
