These ladies from tour buses at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center play roles in a small historical piece describing when women were first allowed to work in the Homestake gold mine. The 'cowboy' is a gunfight reenactor who also was our tour guide when we went to the mine exhibit. Behind the four actors is a view of the 1250 open cut. The mine opened in 1877 and closed in 2002, boasting as one of the most productive gold mines in the western hemisphere.
