Thunderbirds fall to Chester J-I 79-63

The Thunderbird faced the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks Saturday afternoon in Chester falling 79-63 to fall to 0-4 on the season.

The Hawks are a talented group and are expected to contend in the District 9C as are the Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds put themselves in a big hole early on as they trailed the Hawks 26-9 after eight minutes of action.

Hays/Lodge Pole is a talented team and responded by playing the Hawks even for the rest of the contest.

Thunderbirds finally got their offense rolling in the second half as they scored 44 points in the half with 23 coming in the thirds quarter.

They weren't, however able to slow down the Hawks who managed to ride the early lead to a 79-63 win over Hays/Lodge Pole.

The Thunderbirds got a huge effort from junior standout Frank RunsAbove who tossed in 27 points in the contest including a pair of triples.

Junior Tyson Shambo scored nine in defeat as he is slowly working his way back from injury.

Senior Damon Castillo chipped in eight and junior Tough Snow for the Thunderbirds.

Hays/Lodge Pole's game against the North Star Knights this past Monday will be included in next week's Journal.

Hays/Lodge Pole will return to the court January 2 when they will welcome the Big Sandy Pioneers to town. The team will head to Turner on January 8 and Fort Benton on January 9 as District 9C play gets into full swing.

The Thunderbirds will look to move up the standings and put themselves in good position come tournament time.
