We've Got The County Covered

Harlem Library

February is “Love Your Library” month. To celebrate you are invited to fill out a heart with the name of your Literary Valentine (a book character you love!). Your name will be entered into a drawing for a door prize to be given away at the end of the month.

Our next Learn at the Library program will be Tuesday, Feb. 23, 7 P.M. when undersheriff Frank Billmayer will present a program on protecting yourself from identity theft and scams. Mark your calendars so you don’t miss this important information.

Are you aware you may check our catalog on-line? Go to our website harlempubliclibrary.org and click on “catalog.” You may search by title, author, or subject. If our library doesn’t have a copy of the book you are looking for we will be happy to interlibrary loan it from another library if possible. All we ask is a two dollar deposit that will be returned to you if you pick up and return the book on time.

A novel of shame and scandal is “The Guest Room” by Chris Bohjalian. Richard Chapman offers to host his brother’s bachelor party and sends his wife and daughter to his in-law’s for the weekend. The party goes terribly wrong as two men lie dead in the living room, two women are on the run from the police, and Chapman’s marriage is ripping apart.

Lisa Wingate has written “The Sea Keeper’s Daughter.” Whitney Monroe’s inheritance of a decaying hotel on North Carolina’s Outer Banks may be the solution to saving her high-end restaurant from hostile takeover. But life at the hotel is complicated. Her stepfather will not leave his room on the third floor. The downstairs tenants are determined to save the historic building. When Whitney searches through family heirlooms in storage and discovers an old necklace and Depression-era love story, everything changes.

An action-packed naval adventure story is “Tipping Point” by David Poyer. “Home by Nightfall” is a Charles Lenox mystery by Charles Finch. Chris Carter’s latest work is the crime thriller “An Evil Mind.” Science fiction readers will want to pick up “The Peripheral” by William Gibson.

A new Justin Bodean western is “Three-Legged Horse” by Russ Hall. Fifteen-year-old Justin Bodean has headed out into the Wild West looking for a treasure of Civil War gold. But there are others also on the hunt: some are friendly and some are not. Justin has a lot to learn if he wants to reach his sixteenth birthday.

Clive Cussler and Graham Brown are the authors of “The Pharoah’s Secret.” The NUMA crew is exposed to a dangerous substance called the Black Mist on an Italian island that puts them and the rest of the town into a deathlike sleep. Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala race to find a cure before it’s too late.

Joel Osteen’s latest work is “Fresh Start: The New You Begins Today.” “Wheat Belly 10-Day Grain Detox” is by William Davis, MD. Joyce Meyer has written “Power Words: What You Say Can Change Your Life.”

The Book Challenge for February is to read a young adult book. You may win a gift certificate from a local business.
