Chinook Sugarbeeter seniors Derek Bell and Kevin Young have made the commitment to play football at the next level. Bell will attend Montana State University-Northern this fall while Young will head to Wahpeton, North Dakota to play for the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats.

Young had a stellar career as a Sugarbeeter and played a vital roll on a Sugarbeeter defense that steamrolled their way to the 2015 Montana Class C State football championship.

Young is the career record holder for sacks and also holds the single game sack record. He joins a Wildcat team that won the Minnesota College Athletic Conference championship a season ago.

The Wildcats are a Junior College program (Freshman/Sophomore) and was a perfect fit for Young’s future plans, “I’m going into Diesel Mechanics and I liked the program they offered.”

On the football field Young sees the opportunity of playing for a Junior College as a starting point to a four year school, “My goal is to work hard get better and move on to a Division 1 program after two years, thats the plan.”

For Bell the opportunity to play at Northern was one he couldn’t pass up. Bell will join fellow Sugarbeeter Kenny Pruttis on the roster.

“It feels good to be moving on to the next level and I am honored to have the opportunity to continue playing football,” said Bell

Young will play Linebacker for the Wildcats and looks forward to the opportunity of playing 11 man football for the first time, “It’s what I have worked for and I’m ready to meet the challenge head on.”

Bell was a workhorse on both sides of the ball for the Sugarbeeters during their championship run. A fierce blocker and runner on offense and a missile on defense.

For the lights Bell will play on the defensive side of the ball, where he’s not exactly sure yet but wherever Bell lines up he will certainly be in the mix.
