November Blood Drive is Tuesday, November 8th from 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at Wallner Hall

November 2, 2016

12:30-1:00 has again been set aside for Walk-Ins and the Red Cross has assured me that they will be there and ready to take you at 12:30.

Just a reminder, to help cut off about 15 minutes from the entire blood donation process at the donation site, you can use Rapid Pass. However, you must answer the questions the day of your donation. For more information regarding Rapid Pass you may go to http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass.

So why give blood in Montana? In the United States, every two seconds someone needs blood. In the Montana service area, every 27 minutes someone needs blood. Approximately 38 percent of the population is eligible to donate and less than eight percent actually do, yet many people will need blood or a blood product at some time in their lives. The American Red Cross strives to collect over 700 pints of blood in the Montana service area each week to meet patients’ needs. The American Red Cross supplies blood to more than 30 area hospitals. To make donation convenient, the American Red Cross has five donor centers located throughout Montana, and hosts numerous mobile blood drives across the Montana service area each business day.

So please, bring your ID. Your donor card, your drivers license, your high school ID or two other forms of identification will do the trick. Bring a friend so that you both may enjoy the benefits of giving blood as well as the wonderful goodies at the canteen after you have given blood. Relax! Blood donation is a simple and very safe procedure so there is nothing to worry about.

Before donating get a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast or lunch, drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate (avoid tea, coffee, or other beverages with caffeine). Eat iron-rich foods: red meat, fish, poultry, beans, iron-fortified cereals, raisins or prunes. Avoid fatty foods such as hamburgers, fries or ice cream before donating.

At the Blood Drive on September 13, we had 46 presenting donors with seven deferred for a total of 39 total units on a goal of 50.

One First time donor was registered: Cord Schneider; Brooke Elliot who registered in July but was deferred was able to give her first pint at this September drive. Dave Jensen received a 2 gallon pin and Elaine Hamilton received a seven gallon pin.

We are grateful for each and every life saving gift and look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday, November 8th.

The canteen was hosted by St. Gabriel’s PCCW with Rita Langford, Patty Hall and Vernelia Tillman keeping the sandwich and goodie plates filled. This task is always appreciated by the donors as well as the volunteers and the Red Cross staff. It has been told many times to me that Chinook provides the best canteen. Way to go Chinook!!

Pastor Jack Mattingly and the United Methodist Church, as always, graciously provided the site for the drive at Wallner Hall.

The volunteers at the registration table who always seem to be enjoying themselves were Donna Murdy and Judy Johnson with a little relief given by Carla Jenewein.

Those assisting with clean up after the drive were Colleen and Steven Mulonet, Ben and Patty Hall.

Finley’s Food Farm donated the drinks and paper products for the drive which is greatly appreciated..

Everyone’s willingness and dedication to the Red Cross Blood Drive is very much appreciated. None of this could be done without you, donors and volunteers alike.

Door prizes were provided by St. Gabriel’s PCCW and were awarded to Tanner Cummings, Mark Billmayer, Doug White, Shirley MacKenzie, Carol Warburton, John Schneider, Ashley Betzel, Karen Pike, Ken Maly, Rhonda Brewer, Nicole McCracken and Ashley Nordboe.
