2017 Montana Seed Show winners by event

There were a number of competitions during the annual Montana Seed Show in Harlem. Here is a list of the barebones details—events and winners as listed in the program for the Saturday night banquet.

Educational Display Booths: Youth Division Groups: 1st place, North Harlem Elementary; 2nd place, Big Flat 4-H and 3rd place, Valley Clovers 4-H. Individual Division Groups: 1st place, Andrew Rasmussen and 2nd place, Daniel Rasmussen and Skylar Powell. Overall Sweepstakes Winner was North Harlem Elementary.

Commercial Booths: For Profit winner was Triangle Telephone.

Wood Working: Youth Division Best of Show, Julia Beaumont and Quinten Snow and Youth Computer Generated, Daniel Rasmussen. Adult Best of Show: Small Item, Ralph Cross and Ray Price and Large Item, Dale Klungland.

Art: Adult Best of Show, Ned Malone and Youth Best of Show, Eddie Harmon.

Quilts: Judges’ Choice, 1st place, Joyce Van Voast. Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice, Bonnie Russell.


Car Show: People’s Choice, Car and Truck, Ralph Schneider. People’s Choice Antique Tractor, Chinook High Ag. Mechanics II refurbishing project.

Wool: Adult Purebred, Tyrel Raty and Adult Commercial, Dennis Mitchell. Youth Division Purebred, Allyssa Schoen and Youth Division Commercial, Hannah Schoen.

Agricultural: Youth: Forage Rosette, Cord Schneider and Pulse, Daniel Rasmussen. Adult: Certified Durum, Golden Triangle Seeds; Adult Common-Spring Wheat, Gavin Maloney and Adult Forage, Fred and Sandy Miller. Best of Show Traveling Trophy, Golden Triangle Seeds.

Beef Cook-off: Nissen Angus won both the Judges’ Choice and the Peoples’ Choice.

Breads: Youth Division: Oven Baked, 1st place, Amaya Messerly; 100% Whole Wheat, 1st place, Ben Hofeldt; Bread Machine-White, 1st place, Julia Morin and Bread Machine-Wheat Combo, 1st place, Tom Jones.

Adult Division: Oven Baked, 1st place, Ethel Siemens; 100% Whole Wheat, 1st place, Bobbi Schroder; Bread Machine-White, 1st place, Betty Hay and Bread Machine-Wheat Combo, 1st place, also Betty Hay. Overall Sweepstakes Winner, Ethel Siemens. At the evening banquet, the top-placing breads brought a combined $435 at live auction.

Pies: Youth Pie Finalists: 1st place, Angelina Toth, Havre with a blueberry/cherry pie; 2nd place, Natalie Richman, Harlem and 3rd place, Andrew Rasmussen, Hogeland. These three pies sold, combined, at auction for $675.

Adult Pie Finalists: 1st, place, Rose Wollman, Lewistown with a triple berry pie; 2nd place, Diana Maloney, Turner; 3rd place, Judy Drugge, Zurich and 4th place, Kellie Rasmussen, Hogeland. These pies brought $1125 at the Saturday evening auction.

There were also some raffles and an additional auction at the Saturday evening banquet. Judy Michael’s original painting, used for the 2017 Seed Show catalog cover, sold for $275 at auction. Virginia McCracken had the winning raffle ticket for the painting of a saddle. From the drawing based on Saturday evening banquet tickets, Vicki Hofeldt won $50 and Holly Lavendar won the jewelry donated by Kellie Rasmussen.
