Blaine County Cruisers race down Malta Strip

John Haldeman and Jess Murphy race down the track at the Hi-Line Dragstrip in Malta Saturday during the first stop of the Blaine County Cruise. Haldeman's 70's model Chevy and Murphy's 50's Model Chevy made for one of the more interesting races.. A record 70 registered cars, trucks and motorcycles made the trip. The two day event included a dinner and a movie each night as well as a breakfast Saturday morning that made it a great family event.

From the beginning to Blaine County Cruise has been an incredibly popular event For many to participate arm as they get into the heart of their summer schedule this past weekend Blaine County Cruisers event attracted a record number 70 registered cars as they made the trip east to Malta and back Saturday.

Since the beginning the cruise has had good numbers through the years and steady growth is a direct result of a well-organized activity. The community was welcome to take part in the activities Friday evening at the Blaine County Fairground as festivities got underway.

Friday night everyone were treated to the movie Snake and Mongoose showing on the back of the grandstands at the fairgrounds with concessions Chinook FFA.

Saturday morning the Blaine County 4-H Foundation put on a breakfast for all those in the community as well as those taking part in the cruise after registration concluded 70 cars carrying more than 200 people began their day-long Adventure.


The first stop was in Malta Montana where they visited the Hi-line Speedway and ever popular place for car enthusiasts and drag strip racers since it was first built.

Cruisers competed in various challenges Friday and Saturday with the person collecting the most points winning a $1,000 grand prize.

The first points were collected Friday night simply by attending the Movie. Saturday morning Cruisers began the day receiving points for attending the breakfast. After registration was completed the Cruisers headed to the Hi-Line Dragstrip in Malta.

While in Malta everyone was treated to a Barbecue and a good time at the at the track. The opportunity was available for all interested to make as many trips down the track as they liked. The track crew was very accommodating and ensure that everyones experience was safe and enjoyable.


They then departed for Dodson to take on the next challenge. This stop was a short one but as with all the stops you could stay as long as you liked. This challenge consisted of a ladder ball where you had to ring the ladder to receive your points.

Next Cruisers headed to the Harlem VFW parking lot where the object of the challenge was to pop balloons. The challenges were a great way for everyone to compete in a stress free family activity that was centered around fun.

The final stop before returning to the fairgrounds was pitstop in Zurich. This challenge was a bit more complicated as one had to toss a oil can from their car, while driving and land it in one of three tires to earn the points for the challenge.

When the cruisers returned to Chinook they were treated to another evening of that was open for all to enjoy.

A dinner was served by Val's Custom Catering and was well attended. While everyone was discussing the events of the day a silent auction was taking place. A live auction followed as did the awards presentations.

The grand prize was won by one Cordell Schultz of Canada. Chinook's Kourtney Hanson was second and Dan Guitsman was the winner of the Tool Box.

This Cruise certainly set the standard for what one can expect from this fantastic family event. Next years Cruise is surely on the minds of many.
