Chinook Area Chamber of Commerce hosts annual member banquet

February 7, 2018

Guests at the Chinook Area Chamber banquet enjoyed a presentation by Michael and Erin Garrity, owners and operators of the Triple Dog Brewery in Havre. The couple shared the story of how buying a home brew kit 10 years ago ultimately resulted in their opening the popular brewery. Michael said, "Still in our early 20's and with no commercial brewing or business experience we jumped into starting a brewery." He added, "Many people ask us, 'Would you do it again?'. We're not even sure how we did it this time. With a lot of help from family and friends our desire to succeed overrode our fear of failure." The couple also noted, as new business owners, "How you see the future is not how it will normally turn out for your business." "And," they said, "you have to be patient."

The 2018 officers to the Board of Directors for the Chinook Area Chamber of Commerce were introduced at the chamber's annual banquet: They include Dana Davis, Secretary; Daniel Dahl, Vice President; Sarah Pratt, President; Hayley Yost, Treasurer and Dawn Colby, Reporter - Parliamentarian. Brandon Nissen, the new Executive Director for the Chinook Chamber, was not present.

President Pratt, speaking of some upcoming changes for the chamber, said Brandon Nissen would soon be starting his duties as Executive Director and would be available 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each weekday at the chamber office (313 Indiana Street). The Business After Hours program will resume on a quarterly rather than monthly basis. Businesses interested in hosting the March, or, future Business After Hours should contact the chamber office at 357-3115.

Pratt said there would be a Sugarbeet Festival in 2018. She said the chamber board would be talking about plans for the festival at their February 7 meeting (6 pm). The board welcomes input regarding the festival.

As has become a tradition, a 'member of the year' is announced at each annual banquet. This year the honor went to the Miller Brothers Tree Service of Chinook. Pratt said, "They are awesome people helping others." The service company was very active aiding with the clean-up following the ice storm in early October of last year.
