The MSU Blaine County Extension Service, in collaboration with the MSU Hill County Extension, Havre Chamber Agri-business, and Northern Ag Research Center (NARC), invites area producers to their Winter Beef Symposium on January 10 and January 24 at the Northern Ag Research Center in Havre from 11:00 a.m.—3:40 p.m.

The center is located at 3710 Assiniboine Road, which is about seven miles southwest of Havre on U.S. Highway 87. Interested persons can attend one or both sessions. Although the symposium is free and open to the public, individuals are encouraged to call to register so that event organizers can get an accurate lunch count. Lunch will be served both days.

A variety of speakers will present livestock related topics. The topics and speakers at the January 10 meeting will include Control of Small Animal Vertebrates, presented by Stephen M. Vantassel; Weak Calf Syndrome, presented by Tim Delcurto; Winter Feed Supplementation and Grazing Patterns, presented by Sam Wyffels; Risks and Opportunities in Current Cattle Markets, presented by Custom Ag Solutions; and Expected Progeny Differences for Commercial Cattle Operations, presented by Jennifer Thomson.

The topics and speakers for January 24 include Cover Crops and Cattle Grazing, presented by Darrin Boss; Cheatgrass Control and Weed Invaders, presented by Jane Mangold; Beef Cattle Third Trimester Nutrition, presented by Megan Van Emon; weak calf syndrome from a vet perspective, presented by Dr. Bob Sager, and United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency Programs for Livestock, presented by Russell Snedigar and Miranda Skoyen.
