Harlem Library

July 31, 2019

Last week, the Harlem Public Library had their final summer reading programs for children.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Summer Reading program. We appreciate all the wonderful readers! A big shout out to all the businesses, organizations and individuals who generously donated to the Summer Reading program. Children have until August 9 to return reading logs. Harlem students may also take A.R. tests until August 9. Teens and adults have until August 2 to let the library know what books you have read/listened to. The drawings from grand prizes will take place August 12.

Lego Club meets Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 for all ages. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be no Books and Babies or Story Hour until September.

The library has learned we will be open five more hours! We are interested to learn your preferences for adding those hours to our schedule. Please call (353-2712), email harlemlib@live.com, or complete the survey on Facebook.

Bestselling author Jamie Ford, who now lives in Great Falls, will be visiting the Hi-Line libraries in September. He will be at the Harlem Library September 9, Blaine County Library September 10 and Havre-Hill Library September 11. His three novels are "On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet", "The Songs of Willow Frost" and "Love and Other Consolation Prizes." We have all three and they are also available on MontanaLibrary2Go if you would like to read them before his presentation. An Opportunity Grant from Humanities Montana is helping to pay for his visit.

Contact the library with the western novel you read for the July Book Challenge so your name can be entered to win a gift certificate from a local business. The Book Challenge for August is to read a book with a question for the title. We have some picked out for you to choose from.

Are you ready for a new book? Come check out what's available now at the library.

Ali Smith continues her seasonal themed novels with "Spring." She has also written "Winter" and "Autumn."

"Miracle Creek" is written by Angie Kim. This debut thriller is about an immigrant family and a young single mother accused of killing her autistic son.

Mary Beth Keane is the author of "Ask Again, Yes." Two rookie NYPD cops live next door to each other. This is the story of what happens behind closed doors, the bond between their children, and the tragedy that reverberates over four decades.

"The Daughter's Tale" is a work of historical fiction by Armando Lucas Correa. The dreams Amanda and Julius Sternberg had for their daughters are shattered when the Nazis burn down their family bookshop and Julius is sent to a concentration camp. Amanda takes her daughters and flees to France where a friend agrees to take her in. Along the way a refugee ship headed for Cuba offers a chance to escape. At the dock Amanda is forced to make an impossible choice.

A new addition to the Montana collection is "Wildflowers of Montana" by Donald Anthony Shiemann.

A new Jack Ryan Jr. novel is "Tom Clancy Enemy Contact" by Mike Maden. Elly Griffiths' latest Ruth Galloway mystery is "The Stone Circle."

"The Summoning" is the new Krewe of Hunters novel by Heather Graham.

If you have Harlem High memorabilia to display during the all class reunion please contact the library.
