This past spring, the Harlem Civic Association (HCA) purchased flowers grown by the Harlem FFA members and planted them along Main Street to beautify their town. In late-August, they are still lush and vibrant, ready to welcome those who will be attending the 100 year anniversary of Harlem High School next weekend.

Dale Klungland, a member of the HCA, developed a watering schedule at the beginning of the season and asked HCA and community members to commit to a week of watering. The civic group has a golf cart with a watering system on it that these volunteers drive around to water all the plants once a day. Because of their weekly care, the petunias continue to thrive.

According to an HCA spokesperson, flowers provide a welcoming touch to a town. Next week with the reunion festivities, event organizer Kellie Rasmussen reminds anyone who has not registered but plans on attending, that certain events have individual prices. "We would appreciate, however, if you can RSVP so that we have plenty of food for everyone," Rasmussen said.

Friday evening's KICK OFF BBQ will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. under the big tent at Harlem High School and will be catered by the HCA. For $20.00 per plate, a person can select from pulled pork, baked beans, various salads and side dishes, dessert bar, water, ice tea, coffee and lemonade.

Following dinner, there will be a School Dance from 8:00 - 12:00 p.m. in the Harlem High School Little Gym. DJ music will be provided by Montarctica Productions with Travis Rhodes of Malta.

Established in 2010, Montarctica is a music studio and video productions company that produces a podcast and conducts live entertainment promotions. According to Rhodes, "From the mountains to the prairie, from the bitter 40 below to the sweltering 110 above, we support the best in live entertainment, action sports, and outdoor lifestyles. At Montartica, we are as tough as the land where we live!"

"Although we will have music from every era, it will only be the good stuff," Rasmussen joked. "You can dance or you can visit and reminisce! We will have plenty of seating. We will also have snacks such as chips, dips, and lots of sweets; in addition to beverages like punch, ice tea, coffee, and water. The high school will be open to tour the hallowed halls of Harlem High, and class pictures will take place under the cat in the Big Gym," she added.
