Shannon was born March 11, 1967 in Anaconda, Montana to Frank and Karen LaTray. Moving back to Chinook after the Anaconda Company Strike, they resided there while he was still young, only moving to Williston, ND for a year before returning. Shannon attended school in Chinook for his academic career.

Meeting Tara Stoeger, they married at St. Jude Church in Havre, MT before Shannon joined the guards. While Shannon was in the service, Tara moved to Livingston where they lived for years until they finally moved to Lander, WY where they raised their children Patrick and Tiffany.

Tara fell ill and passed away in October of 2019 while Shannon was working as a commercial fertilizer salesman. He worked this job until he became sick with pancreatitis. After getting sick, Shannon was in the hospital in Billings for 3 weeks until his passing on June 15, 2020 with his parents at his side.

There will be a graveside service in Chinook at the Kuper Memorial Cemetery on October 3, 2020 at 11:00 am. Cremation has taken place, Shannon will be buried with his Grandfather, John LaTray.
