Finance Programs to Begin Today

January 13, 2021

MSU Extension Agent for Blaine County, Juli Snedigar announced last week that the next session of the Solid Finances webinar series for the 2020-2021 year begins today, January 13, at 12:05 p.m. Each fifty-minute program in the series is designed to provide adults with an unbiased resource for enhancing their personal financial skills.

The presenter of today’s installment is Carrie Johnson of North Dakota State University Extension. In her broadcast, “Medicare,” Johnson will explain the government health insurance program that covers people over the age of 65. Because all of the details surrounding Medicare can get overwhelming to individuals when it comes time to sign up, this session will help participants to understand Medicare terms, coverages, and costs. Johnson will also present options for those who decide to work past the age of 65 and those who decide to retire earlier.

On January 20 in her next program, “Student Loan Debt,” Johnson will communicate information related to current student loan borrowing habits as well as share tips on minimizing loans while a person is enrolled in school.

The following Wednesday, January 27, will feature the topic “Student Loans and the Pandemic.” This installment will address some of the changes connected to student loan repayment during the pandemic that offer relief to borrowers. Johnson will additionally provide an overview of the CARES Act and Presidential Executive Order as they apply to the student loan process.

“Tips for Good Credit Management” is February third’s topic. During this webinar, Johnson will explain credit as a tool that many adults use to purchase things they want and need. Critical to that process, consumers should understand the different types of credit and how to make informed decisions about which credit is used and the costs related to using that credit. Not only imparting an overview of these topics, this session will reveal credit management tips.

When the series continues on February 17, Joel Schumacher of MSU Extension will assume responsibility as the presenter. His first topic will be “Setting Good Investment Goals.” That will be followed on February 24 with “Accessing your Retirement Funds Early: Pros and Cons” and on March 3 with “Preparing to Meet with an Investment Advisor.”

There is no cost to participate in these Solid Finances broadcasts. Each webinar will address the topic specified. Individuals may choose to attend all of the sessions or only those that are of specific interest to them.
