'Beeter Golfers Tee it Up at Sunburst/Valier Tournament

April 14, 2021

The Chinook Sugarbeeter boys and girls golf teams were in Shelby this past Thursday at the Sunburst/Valier Tournament held at the Marias Valley golf and Country Club Course. It was the first time competing this season for the ‘Beeters and after missing all of last season due to COVID-19, some rust was to be expected.

The Chinook contingent consisted of six boys and two girls. Competing in the Varsity Tournament for the boys was senior Ethan MacLeod, senior Erik Pula, junior Oskar Pula and junior Braden Eoff. Senior Benton Elliot and sophomore Daniel MacLeod competed for the ‘Beeters in the Junior Varsity Tournament. For the girls, the ‘Beeters were represented by senior Hailey Bell and junior Shay Hauer. Ethan MacLeod, Eoff and Bell all competed for the ‘Beeters in 2019 at the Class C State Tournament.

As is the case in Montana nearly every spring, finding good quality practice time on the links is challenging to say the least. In years past the golfers have utilized the auditorium at the high school or the golf simulator in town to work on their game. This year they were able to get out on the local course, but severe sand issues have made playing the course more of a challenge than normal.

In the end it is often the golfers first eighteen hole round of the season when they compete in the first tournament of the season.

The Sugarbeeter boys had a full varsity contingent of four golfers in Shelby. Scoring the top three rounds the ‘Beeters finished first in the eight team field with a score of 336.

Ethan MacLeod led the boys with a round of 109. Oskar Pula finished his eighteen with a score of 112, Erik Pula shot a 115 while Eoff finished with a round of 129.

Bell completed her round with a 126 while Hauer scored a 149. Elliot signed his scorecard for a 130 and Daniel MacLeod, 142 in the Junior Varsity Tournament.
