Blaine County Library

June 2, 2021

Our Summer Reading Programs officially began yesterday! Children of all ages are invited to join the Blaine County Library’s Summer Reading Program and attend the fun programs and events we have planned. Children who join the summer reading program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed.

Kids can sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge anytime. For every two hours read, they will be able to enter their name into our Summer Reading prize drawings. There will also be small prizes awarded for every two-hour entry and a certificate to the Creamery after completing 15 hours of reading. Pre-readers are encouraged to participate by having someone read to them. The final day to turn in reading logs will be 5:00 p.m. Friday August 13th. Computers are available for taking Accelerated Reader tests so kids will be able to get a head start on AR points for the fall.

Kids in grades K through 8 can put their name in the drawings for any of 4 prizes. We have an Arts and Crafts Warehouse with over 1,500 pieces, a War Game Water Battle that includes 4 water guns and 4 color changing vests, a book titled “Montana History for Kids in 50 Objects” with supplies for many of the activities, and a solar robot 12-in-1 kit with a book called “Awesome Engineering Activities.” The prize for preschool age kids includes a t-shirt, a wooden puzzle, a chalkboard mat, a book and a dinner play set. This year we are offering a prize for grades 9 through 12 and a prize for adults to enter with every book read! The Young Adult prize is a 4 player Laser Tag game. The adult prize includes a Reader’s Journal, a book light, a book browsing bag, an insulated cup and a Rad’s gift certificate.

We are excited to continue our Traditional Storytime this summer for kids ages 6 and under. This program will take place every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. and will last around 45 minutes. The Summer Storytime program is tailored to the needs and interests of a younger age group and is a great opportunity for your younger children to get involved with our Summer Library activities. Each week we’ll read stories, sing songs, have dance parties and use musical instruments and scarves.

There will be a Summer Library Program every Tuesday afternoon at 1:30pm beginning June 1st and ending July 27th. Each program will last around 45 to 60 minutes. There will be a guest speaker, stories, games, activities, and treats each week.

We will have a Story Walk at the Meadowlark Mondays and Thursdays during the Summer Lunch pickup, from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. Beat the Heat Movies will be Mondays at 1:30 and Hangout for 7th and 8th graders will be from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Hangout for 5th and 6th graders will be Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. LEGO Club will be Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Once a month we will have a family movie outside the library in the evening.

We will have information about our guest speaker and what movie will be playing each week on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We look forward to spending time with you and your children this summer.
