Dwight Hofeldt Retires, Headed to Texas

June 30, 2021

Dwight Hofeldt as decided to get off the mower and head to Texas to be closer to his kids and grandkids. What's he plan on doing when he gets there? Just as you guessed, get a job!

Friday afternoon, June 25, 2021, Dwight Hofeldt retired from his job with the Chinook Public Schools.

Dwight is well know around the community of Chinook and throughout all of Blaine County as always being a hard worker. This past Friday Dwight retired from his position as Yard Custodian for Chinook Public Schools. Dwight never just did one job in a day, working two or three jobs for the past several decades.

Hired on to mow the lawns for the High School, Meadowlark and Football Fields back in 1999, Dwight was just getting started, "When I got hired at the school within a day or two I also got hired on with Swans, so I worked the mornings at the school and then worked the evening shift at Swans for seven years."

Dwight says that he just always had to be doing something and a single job just didn't cut it. After leaving Swans Dwight then worked for a few years at Bear Paw Meats, doing whatever was asked of him.

When the time came Dwight moved on to become the maintenance man at Town Pump, all the while maintaining his job with Chinook Schools.

Dwight worked for Town Pump until 2017. As earlier stated, one job wasn't enough for Dwight. Sometimes two didn't cut it either.

For the past eight years Dwight did snow removal for the Sweet Medical Center in Chinook as well as a number of other odd jobs. Following this winter season Dwight notified the clinic that he wouldn't be doing snow removal this coming season.

The past three years he has been working for the Kuper Memorial Cemetery doing whatever was needed to be done. Dwight said he would weed-eat, trim trees, lay the footings for headstones, "The first job I did out there was putting gravel on the roads."

After leaving Town Pump in 2017 Dwight helped gather equipment and auction items for Joe Brummer and that work led to Joe talking to Mick Thompson with the Cemetery Board, eventually leading to his working there.

"I like to keep busy, to be active and help where I can," said Dwight. Don't forget, while Dwight was doing all this work, he also trained for and completed a full marathon in Fort Worth, Texas, finishing near the top of the 60 and over age group.

Dwight's future plans include moving to Texas to be closer to his kids and his Eleven Grandsons, "I have one grand daughter but she is moving to Arizona. I have 11 grandsons in Texas," stated Dwight.

As far as living the 'retired life' in Texas, "Oh I'll probably get a job somewhere, I have to be doing something. There is a lot of work down there, painting, yard work, I'll find something for sure."
