New Doctor in Town

September 1, 2021

There's a new doctor in town, and he's looking forward to helping people care for their animals. Seth Phillips, DVM, recently accepted a position with Blaine County Veterinary Service. His first day on the job was June 18.

Dr. Phillips graduated from Northwest Missouri State in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science Pre-Vet. While at Northwest, he played football for three years and also focused on three core areas with his coursework: science, research and experiential learning. Here, he learned about anatomy, physiology, hormonal influences, and appropriate nutrition for livestock; conducted research; and performed annual procedures such as castration, vaccination, and pregnancy tests on cows.

From Northwest, Phillips went on to Iowa State University to become "practice-ready." By May 2021, he had earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine credentials, specializing in large animals such as cattle and equine health. While he was attending his final classes, he learned about the position opening in Chinook and applied.

"I immediately fell in love with the area," Phillips said. "I love cattle and cold weather, and I'm well-insulated for it!"

Although Phillips also enjoys hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, he expressed a special pleasure for horses and looks forward to growth in that side of his business. "Equine medicine is a special interest of mine," he stated. "But overall, I just want to help people care for their animals and ensure that the ranchers are making money."

Prior to coming to Chinook to practice animal medicine, Phillips worked at various clinics in Central Nebraska.

Anyone interested in the services of Dr. Phillips is encouraged to contact the Blaine County Veterinary Service at 357-2279 or to visit the clinic located at 620 Stockyard Road. The mission of the veterinary clinic is "provide the finest health care possible to the patients, with utmost respect for the clients' needs." The goal is "to have healthy animals, satisfied clients, and all of our experiences to be rewarding."
