According to Eunie Gordon, Communications Manager for Content and Messaging, Welfare and Self-Reliance Services with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one full semi-truck, or roughly 40,000 pounds of food, was donated to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), Fort Benton, Montana, chapter by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The GFWC is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The GFWC’s goal was to put together Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for over 110 families as well as senior citizens needing assistance within the Fort Benton and Chinook communities.

Delivered by Deseret Transportation, the 53-foot truck contained frozen beef and pork roasts, as well as non-perishable food. The following items were on the truck:

STOP #1: Fort Benton, MT

-2 PALLETS OF BEEF AND PORK ROASTS

-1 PALLET OF GREEN BEANS

-1 PALLET OF CORN

-8 PALLETS OF MIXED NON-PERISHABLE

STOP #2: Chinook, MT

-2 PALLETS OF BEEF AND PORK ROASTS

-1 PALLET OF GREEN BEANS

-1 PALLET OF CORN

-8 PALLETS OF MIXED NON-PERISHABLE

“This is one of many food trucks that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has donated to non-profit organizations throughout the nation and throughout the year. We strive to follow the Savior, Jesus Christ to serve others and help care for those in need,” Gordon stated.

In conjunction with the Chinook Food Pantry, local volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints distributed the food from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 27 at the Commercial Building on the Blaine County Fairgrounds. Anyone in need was welcome to bring their own boxes, bags, and containers to receive the food.
