The Turner Tornadoes will take a 3-3 record into the new year after earning a split last week heading into the holiday break. Turner picked up its third non-conference win on Monday night, slipping by the Dodson Coyotes 43-39. Tuesday in Box Elder the girls fell to 0-3 in District 9C play following a tough 80-26 loss to the Bears.

Turner struggled early in their Monday evening contest with the Coyotes, trailing 11-7 after eight minutes of action. Freshman Cassidy Grabofsky scored five of Turners first quarter points to steady the offense.

Head Coach Julie Welsh had her team fired up to start the second as the offense began to click. Junior Dakota Krass scored six before the break, eighth grader Bridget Reed tallied five in the frame powering the Tornado offense to eighteen second quarter points and a 25-18 halftime lead.

Turner scored just four points coming out of halftime and entered the fourth quarter trailing 32-29. Krass helped lead the Tornadoes back on the comeback trail, connecting from downtown. Reed scored six points down the stretch including a 4-4 effort from the free throw line leading Turner to a 43-39 come from behind win.

Krass led the Tornado offense with 14 markers in the win. Reed was right behind with 13 while Grabofsky chipped in eight.

Tuesday the Tornado girls were in Box Elder taking on the undefeated Bears. Turner is a young team building for the future, the Bears are a veteran team with tons of high caliber post season experience. That difference was on full display Tuesday night.

Box Elder jumped out to a 23-4 lead at the end of one with sophomore Katie Kimmel and Krass accounting for the Turner points. The Bears built a 48-14 halftime lead before securing a 80-26 win over the Tornadoes. Krass finished with 17 points to lead the Tornadoes.

Turner will continue their season in the new year on Friday, January 7 when they will be in Hays to take on the Thunderbirds. Turner will play in Chinook the following night.
