No. 7 Hays/Lodge Pole, No. 8 Turner, Limp into District 9C Tournament

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds and Turner Tornado Boys Basketball teams concluded their regular seasons this past week.

The Thunderbirds played four contest, falling on Monday in overtime to the Chinook Sugarbeeters 47-41. Senior Daniel Henry led the team with 12 points. On Tuesday the Thunderbirds fell to the Big Sandy Pioneers 81-47. Senior Tyshawn Shambo tallied 27 points in the loss.

Thursday the Thunderbirds hosted the North Star Knights and again suffered a tough loss, 69-52. Shambo led the team with 19 points. Senior Branden Castillo scored 11 and Henry added 10.

Saturday Hays/Lodge Pole welcomed the Box Elder Bears to the Thunderdome. Box Elder started fast and finished strong in defeating Hays/Lodge Pole 79-54. Shambo led the offense with 20 points while Henry scored 15.

Turner closed out the regular season with a loss at home Friday night to Big Sandy 61-43. Junior Charlie Calvert led the Tornado offense with 11 points. Freshman Caleb Zellmer added eight for Turner in the loss.


Saturday the North Star Knights defeated the Tornadoes 62-49 in the season finale for both teams. Sophomore Ryan Doyle led the Tornadoes with 22 points. Freshman Carson Maloney chipped in 11 for the Turner offense.

Hays/Lodge Pole concludes the regular season 3-11 in the District 9C and 5-13 overall. The Thunderbirds will be the No. 7 Seed at the District 9C Tournament and will play the No. 2 Seed Big Sandy Pioneers Wednesday night at 7:30.

Turner finishes as the District 9C No. 8 Seed with a 0-14 conference record and a 2-16 mark overall. They will play No. 1 Seed Chester/JI Hawks Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
