One Health Revises Intentions Regarding Pharmacy

Milk River Pharmacy will not, after all, be occupying any space in the new health clinic building at Harlem. The Bighorn Valley/One Health strategic planning committee determined that due to unmet needs for the Harlem community, the space that would have been the Milk River Pharmacy will be used for some other purpose.

In early March, Tim and Hilary Richman received an email from the Bighorn/One Health crew saying that their strategic planning committee decided to keep the space that would have been the pharmacy for something else.

According to Kent Doughty, Vice President of Development, One Health identified areas like therapy services, rehabilitation, childcare, and even housing for licensed professional staff as needs. "We will continue to look at our options over the coming weeks/months and make some decisions on about how best to utilize the additional space in our building," he said.

Licensed Pharmacist and owner of Milk River Pharmacy, Hilary Richman expressed surprise and disappointment upon hearing the news. "Basically, there was a verbal agreement to join them there. We had even been sent a rough draft of a contract to look at-without the signature pages. We were just waiting for the formal contract to show up, and now we're out."

Milk River Pharmacy, currently located at 42465 US Highway 2, rents their building space from Doug McCracken. From that location, the hometown pharmacy not only offers prescription services but a gift shop and several over-the-counter medications and products like cough medicines, vitamins, topicals, Russell Stover candy, Mylar and latex balloons, stuffed animals, mugs, and puzzles. They also provide coffee bar and picture machine services to the community.

"The expanded space would have allowed us to carry a wider variety of gift shop and over-the-counter products, and we were considering the idea of adding a selection of floral options, given the extra cooler space available," Richman commented. "Instead, here, we will be."
