'Beeters, Wildcats Perform Very Well at Havre Lions Track & Field Meet

April 13, 2022

Chinook junior Tyler Schoen takes the handoff from senior Hunter Molyneaux in the final leg of the boys 4x100 Meter relay. The 'Beeters ran away from the field finishing more than three seconds in front of the second place crossing the finish line in :45.99.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters and Harlem Wildcats were back on the track and in the field once again while the Turner Tornadoes and Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds were competing for the first time. The weekly schedule was disrupted by weather earlier in the week with the Cal Wearley being postponed until later in the month. The postponement of a huge meet like the Cal Wearley and with inclement weather on the horizon for a scheduled Saturday meet in Lewistown left teams scrambling to compete.

The result of the shifting and a closer look at the weather led to 16 teams getting together at the Hare Middle School Track and Field Complex for the Havre Lions Invitational. The Sugarbeeters and Wildcats were nearly at full strength after starting the season shorthanded. The Tornadoes had four boys and four girls seeing their first action of the season. The Thunderbirds were represented Friday with a roster that included two boys and three girls.

Overall the Chinook boys team finished with an impressive 117.5 points to finish second in the 16 team meet. The 'Beeters were led by senior Toby Niederegger with a first place finish in the High Jump and the 4x100 Meter Relay that won their event easily with a time of :45.99. The Harlem boys finished a solid sixth with 35.5 points.

The Harlem girls scored 52 points Friday led by senior Taya Trottier with a first place finish in the 3,200 Meter Run. Chinook was right behind in seventh place with 52 points led by sophomore Hallie Neibauer's first place effort in the 400 Meter Dash.

Niederegger qualified for the State C Track and Field Meet in Great Falls with his top finish in the High Jump. Niederegger set a personal best mark, clearing 6'4" to easily win the event. Niederegger along with junior Brenden Fetter, junior Tyler Schoen and senior Hunter Molyneaux ran away from the field in the 4x100 Meter Relay finishing in :45.99, more than three full seconds in place of the other Chinook team who finished second with a time of :49.32. That team included freshman Landen Beck, freshman Carson Nissen, junior Caden Sullivan and junior Braxton Inman.

Inman also finished second in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of :57.95. Beck added runner up finishes in both the 1,600 (5:08.61) and the 3,200 (12:00.34). Junior Levi Jensen finished second in the 300 Meter Hurdles as well for the 'Beeters (:46.47) and Schoen's effort of 39'1" was good for second in the Shot Put.

For the 'Beeter girls Neibauer captured the top spot in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:04.77. Freshman Alexus Seymour turned in a second place effort in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:43.40. The 'Beeter girls 4x400 Meter Relay included Seymour, Neibauer, junior Anna Terry and sophomore Sasha Gallus and finished second with a time of 5:03.08.

"Friday was an amazing day for track. We started right off with Toby reaching a personal record in the High Jump at 6'4". It was really fun to watch. Toby made that height look pretty easy.," stated Chinook Head Coach Kendall Harwood. "Landen Beck made a major improvement in his mile time from last week. With his kick on the 4th lap I can tell he still has a lot in the tank. I would expect to see him below the five minute mark by mid season. We placed two in boys in the Long Jump, Levi Jensen and Brenden Fetter both tying for 5th place at 18'1"

Harwood was excited to see the time turned in by the boys relay team, "The boys 4x100m relay team is picking right up where they left off running a :45.99. They are just shy of the state qualifying mark. Our girls had some great performances as well. Hallie took first in the 400, Alexus (Seymour) was fifth in the 400 and second in the 800m. In the field events freshman, Hannah Schoen is on the verge of placing at some big meets. She's really focusing on her form and improving every day," concluded Harwood.

The Wildcats were led by All-State standout senior Taya Trottier who completed eight laps around the track to win the 3,200 Meter Run with a time of 13:13.96. Senior Chloe Messerly added to the Lady Cats point total with a standout performance in the Shot Put. Messerly landed a mark of 30'2.5" to finish second in the event.

Harlem Head Coach Kim Faulkinberry was more than pleased with her teams effort in week number two, "Friday was a beautiful day for a track meet! We were very pleased with the performance of each our kids. Once again many improved upon their marks and times from the Glasgow meet. We had so many Personnel Records (PR) set that we are already looking forward to our next meet."

That next meet is still up in the air as this weeks scheduled event in Cut Bank has already been canceled due to bad weather. Regardless of when our local athletes take the field, the Blaine County Journal will ensure our readers can find out how they did, so stay tuned.
