'Beeter Netters Continue to Shine

Chinook senior Allison Powell has compiled an 8-1 record in her singles matches thus far as she looks to qualify for the State B/C Tennis Tournament in Bozeman net month.

The Chinook Sugarbeeter Tennis team was back at it this weekend as they braved their way through a cold blustery weekend on the courts in Great Falls at the Simms Invitational. They began the week in Havre on Tuesday, sweeping the Blue Pony JV.

Chinook Head Tennis Coach, Janelle Deanon, is very pleased with her teams overall performance thus far, "The girls have been absolutely amazing this season. All of them have been playing extremely well, and have the records to prove it." The 'Beeters as a team have compiled an overall team record of 112 wins versus just 21 losses in 133 matches.

The Simms Invitational was played on the courts in Great Falls and featured a number of teams including Fairfield, Jefferson, Fort Benton, Conrad, and Great Falls Central Catholic.

Senior Allison Powell, the 'Beeters No. 1 Singles player ran her season record to 8-1 in Great Falls picking up four wins against just one loss. Powell won her first four matches (6-3, 6-3) over Fairfield, (6-4, 6-2) over Jefferson, (6-1) against Fort Benton and (6-4) against Conrad. She suffered her first setback Saturday afternoon in a hard fought 6-4 loss to Conrad.


Chinook No. 2 Singles, sophomore Mya Berreth compiled a 6-2 record this past week, sweeping her two Havre opponents on Tuesday before going 4-2 in Great Falls. Berreth improved her overall record to 11-3. Sophomore Jenna Liddle improve to 10-1 overall as going 5-0 over the week including a perfect 4-0 in Great Falls.

Senior Tylie Richman took down her Havre opponent Tuesday before winning her first four matches in Great Falls. Richman dropped her final match of the weekend in a narrow 5-4 setback. Richman's overall record stands at 8-1.


Freshman Tasha Skoyen continues to turn in an outstanding campaign as she improved to 10-3 overall following week on the court that saw her win five matches while dropping just one.

Freshman Ashlyn Jensen retained her perfect start to the season compiling a 3-0 record on Tuesday against the Havre JV. In Great Falls Jensen recorded a 5-0 record to improve to 15-0 on the season.

The Doubles tandem of freshman Rilee Molyneaux and freshman Jeni Mord improved to 12-4 on the year after picking up a pair of wins in Havre on Tuesday the tandem went 3-3 in Great Falls against some pretty stiff competition.

Junior Lexi Pitkanen and junior Torin Cecrle have had a great season thus far accumulating an overall record of 13-2. The duo went 2-0 against Havre and then followed with a 6-1 mark in Great Falls over the weekend.


The 'Beeters third doubles team consisting of freshman Addison Olsen and freshman Shae Shackelford continued their solid start to the season, improving their overall record to a stellar 8-2 mark following 3-2 performance on the court this past weekend.

At the conclusion of the weekend Deanon was pretty pleased with both her singles and doubles teams, "The growth in both our singles and doubles players has been outstanding. Our singles girls have really picked up some great techniques this season, their footwork, serves, and slices are a few standouts in their game. As far as doubles go, each team has really clicked this year and the chemistry between partners is proving to be a real asset. Each team is fierce at the net, covers the court, and plays a competitive game." When asked if she felt her team was meeting her expectations, "Absolutely! They've really been taking what we're working on in practice and applying it to game situations and it's paying off big time."

The 'Beeters have a long storied history of success on the tennis courts and by the looks of the team this season they are getting ready to add another successful chapter to the story.

The 'Beeters Doubles Team of junior Torin Cecrle and Lexi Pitkanen have had their way with their opponents thus far compiling a 13-2 overall record.

The Northern B/C Divisional will be in Havre on May 12-14. The Montana State Class B/C Tennis Tournament will be held in Bozeman, May 19-21.
