Volunteers Always Welcome at Sweet Home

June 15, 2022

Emma and Brenden, Young Adult Volunteers (YAV's) did a remarkable job Volunteering out at the Sweet Home. The YAV's have returned home leaving a bit of a void at the Sweet Home. If you are interested in volunteering some time to spend with the Sweet Residents please contact the office and see what you may be able to help with!

The Sweet Home has greatly appreciated all the volunteer work provided by the most recent pair of Young Adult Volunteers (YAV's). Emma Kate and Brenden began volunteering at the Sweet Home in September of 2021. They helped at various times throughout the week, assisting with Bible Study, various activities and parties. From time-to-time Brenden would even break out his guitar and entertain both the staff and the residents. Their time in Montana has come to an end and they have headed back to their hometowns to further their life pursuits.

The Sweet Home has had to deal with some pretty significant events the past three years, just like everyone else. Being a Senior Living facility extra measures are often put in place to best protect the Residents. This has meant limited visitations, at times no visitation, meals served in rooms and little or no group activity. In addition, staffing can certainly be an issue at times, but through it all the Sweet Home has been able to provide the Residents with the best care possible.

Volunteers are always welcome at the Sweet Home and provide a boost to everyone in the building. In meeting the resident's needs, the Sweet Home Staff is highly efficient in getting the job done, but there is always that something, that little bit extra the residents would surely enjoy. Volunteers are welcome to contact the office and see what needs could be filled depending on the status of the Sweet Home with regards to safety protocols. A walk with the residents, maybe a trip to the courtyard to enjoy a nice day. Working on a puzzle or a craft with a resident or just simply stopping in for a visit. These are just some of the ways the residents can benefit from a volunteer.

Many residents are fortunate enough to have regular visits from family and friends, but there are some that could sure benefit from a friendly face stopping in to say Hi. Sweet Home Administrator Rebecca Shackelford recognizes the need for more volunteers, especially in today's daily normal of navigating safety protocols due to Covid-19, or the Flu or various other situations. "Volunteers are a priceless commodity always, but never so much as when we have to shut down group activities and communal dining. COVID precautions are extremely important, but we have seen how it can adversely affect the residents. Everything takes more time when we have to follow the COVID precautions and with limited staff already an issue we are dealing with, volunteers can become an essential part of how Sweet Home provides the great care we are known for."

Summer is a great time to for the residents to be able to get outside and enjoy some fresh air and see new things. The warmer weather certainly makes things easier, and the residents surely enjoy it. The Sweet Home Courtyard is a great place to sit and visit, look at flowers, reminisce or enjoy a sweet treat. If you have the time and are looking to put a smile on someone's face, the Sweet Home residents are excited to meet you!
