Turner Christian Church to Host Big Flat Jamboree

June 29, 2022

In what organizers hope will become an annual affair, parishioners of the Turner Christian Church invite surrounding communities to the Big Flat Jamboree on Sunday, July 10 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Located at the intersection of Main Street and Highway 241 at Turner, the Big Flat Gospel Jamboree will feature two hours of worship music performed by groups from across the Hi-Line. Among those who will perform are Kenny Overcast from Chinook, the Wet Weather Band from Turner, a Savoy-Harlem group, and a Malta ensemble.

Immediately following the music, a soup supper will be served with donations graciously accepted. One church member captured the primary purpose of the musical worship by saying, "We wanted to host a fun summer afternoon that brings people together for fellowship using the unique gifts we've been bestowed-like our great sound system and new structure-to share the joy of worshiping our heavenly Father in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. Our hope is to send folks home with full bellies and uplifted spirits."

Constructed mostly through volunteer labor by its members, the current church was dedicated in June of 2018. The previous building had structural issues and needed a major overhaul, so the congregation made the decision to tear down and start over. The new building is only slightly larger than the old one but has a different floor plan and is described as "more modern and efficient" by the congregation.
