The Chinook Golf Course held its 27 Hole Triple Play Golf tournament this past Sunday. This tournament is fairly new as far as top notch tournaments go, but it has certainly become a premier event for the course. Next to the Fireball Tournament it is the largest, most successful, tournament on the summer schedule.

The Triple Play challenge is unique in its format as it begins with 9 holes of Best Ball. Scotch or alternate shot is played for the middle nine holes. A Classic scramble is played the final nine. The tournament offers some incredible hole prizes including a $5,000 cash reward for a Hole In One on hole four as well as a trip to Hawaii if the feat is accomplished on Hole 24.

The field is always sold out and reservations need to be secured ahead of time to ensure inclusion in the tournament field. Each team consist of two players with a handicap established for each team based on a fraction of the teams combined individual handicap. A Calcutta is held before the start of the tournament which only adds to the payout at the end. Every team is sold and the payout is always huge.

30 teams make up the field with two or three groups teeing off on each hole. The day is a test of stamina and with a steady sun beating down on you, as was the case on Sunday, it can take its toll by days end. Breakfast is served up prior to the start of the day's festivities. Lunch can be picked up during the day as the teams make their way past the clubhouse during their round. Following the conclusion of every team's round a fresh homemade Dinner is served to all the players.

This year the over all winning team was a tie between the team of Mike Seymour and Lane Seymour and the team of Gordon Webb and Kate Webb. Both teams finished with a 27 hole score of 104. Finishing third overall was team of Donovan Mosser and Isaac Mosser with a total of 111.

Winners of the Net Tournament were Andre Wright and EJ Ollinger with a score 0f 81.51. John Mitchell and Isaiah Murie were close behind in second with a net score of 87.05. Finishing third was Robb Williams and Eddy Moore with a total score of 87.58.

Winners of the Calcutta were split into three divisions, Championship, First Flight and Second flight. The Calcutta was only for the scramble portion of the tournament, the final nine holes played. Winners of the Champion Flight Calcutta were Kate and Gordon Webb with a 32 in a tie for second were Mike and Lane Seymour along with Donovan and Isaac Mosser each with a 33.

First Flight Gross Calcutta winners were Eddie Moore and Rob Williams with a 34. First Place Net was Marty Dirden and Colton Dirden with a 29.77. Second Flight Gross Calcutta Winners were EJ Ollinger and Andre Wright with a 35. Net Winners were Darin Hamilton and Ben Parsons with a 29.4.

Chinook Golf Course Tournament Manager Mike Seymour was thrilled with how things turned out, "It was a great day for a golf tournament. The weather cooperated and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves." The Tournaments well earned reputation draws players from all over the Hi-line, "We sure do appreciate all the support we get from those individuals that come out and support our course by playing in our tournaments. We have a tremendous group of golfers that come from Harlem and Fort Belknap that truly support our course in every way. Men's League, tournaments you name it. Golfers from Malta, Havre and Rocky Boy always show up to support our tournaments and men's league as well."

The tournament was played on a Sunday to not interfere with the Golf Course Community Dinner and Auction the previous night at the Blaine County Fairgrounds Commercial Building, "Of course we sure do appreciate our own members that actively support our course be it the banquet last night or tournaments and daily play. It's a long day, 27 holes, Calcutta, but it's worth it I think, breakfast lunch and dinner and a beautiful day on the course, wow, what more can you ask for!"

Ed Obie chips onto the green on hole 23 of the Triple Play tournament late Sunday afternoon.

The 26th Annual Fireball tournment is the next big event on the tournament schedule. The Fireball is by far the courses biggest fundraiser outside of the Community dinner and Auction. The field fills fast but as with all things sometimes a spot for an individual opens up or even a slot for a new team becomes available. Check in with Mike Seymour at the course if you are interested in playing.
