The Chinook Sugarbeeter football team capped their Homecoming week with a dominate thrashing of the visiting Shelby Coyotes Friday night. Once the 'Beeter offense got rolling they were nearly unstoppable racking up 380 yards on the ground and another 86 through the air for 466 yards of total offense in a dominate 40-18 win to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Sugarbeeters were paced all night long by senior Running back Tyler Schoen who scored all six 'Beeter touchdowns. The offense started to find some rhythm in its passing game and the defense once again dominated.

After forcing a turnover on downs on the Coyotes opening drive the 'Beeter offense went right to work. Senior Quarterback Levi Jensen went right to the air to start the game. First, he completed a short screen pass to senior Running back Tyler Schoen and the found sophomore Landen Beck down the left sideline for a 24 yard pickup.

On first down Jensen again found Beck, this time for five yards. A couple plays later Jensen found senior Running back Flint Annis for another 20 yards to the Coyote 11 yard line. Two plays later Schoen found the end zone on a three yard plunge to give the 'Beeters a quick 6-0 lead.

The teams traded possessions with Coyotes getting the ball back to start the second quarter. Shelby soon scored to even the ball game at 6-6. From that point on it was the Tyler Schoen show.

Schoen began the next 'Beeter drive with a 14 yard gain and added another six on the next play. Following an incomplete pass Schoen busted through the Coyote line, throwing off tacklers as he rumbled 36 yards for his second score of the contest. Following a conversion run from Schoen Chinook held a 14-6 advantage.

The defense forced Shelby into a quick three and out giving the ball right back to the offense. Schoen followed a six yard pickup from Beck with a 25 yard sprint to paydirt to give Chinook a 20-6 lead with 6:55 remaining in the first half.

This time though, the Coyotes had a answer and scored with 5:09 remaining after a quick 5 play drive, mainly through the air to bring Shelby back within eight at 20-12.

The 'Beeters next possession began at their own 34 yard line. Schoen picked up nice gains of 14, 15 and nine yards to move the offense deep into Shelby territory. With just over two minutes remaining in the half, Schoen scored his fourth touchdown of the half, breaking tackles and running over the Coyote Safety for 14 yards. Schoen added the conversion run to extend the 'Beeter lead to 28-12.

The Coyotes were hoping to build some momentum before the break had a nice little drive going, moving the ball into 'Beeter territory. On fourth and six the Coyote Quarterback dropped back and let it fly towards the end zone. 'Beeter sophomore Hendrix Doney high pointed the ball perfectly, securing the interception with time winding down in the half. Chinook took their 28-12 lead into halftime feeling pretty good about their effort.

The 'Beeters began the third quarter stuck near their own goal line following a penalty on the opening kickoff. Annis began the 'Beeter drive with a couple of carries before a face mask penalty put the 'Beeters in a third and five situation and their own 11 yard line. Jensen picked up four yards setting the stage for a fourth and one from their own 15.

Schoen took the hand off from Jensen attacking the right side of the line with a full head of steam. After shedding a number of Coyote defenders, Schoen turned on the jets and outran the rest of the defense for a 65 yard touchdown putting an exclamation point on the contest. The conversion attempt was no good leaving the 'Beeters with a 34-12 lead with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The 'Beeter defense again forced the Coyotes into a three and out giving the ball right back to the offense. Shelby managed to hold the 'Beeter offense in check, forcing a punt. The Coyote deep back muffed the punt resulting in Beck recovering the fumble and keeping the offense on the field.

Four plays later Schoen was again in the end zone, this time scoring on a 20 yard scamper to put Chinook up 40-12 with more than five minutes left in the third quarter. The touchdown was Schoen's sixth of the contest.

The 'Beeters would again get the ball right back from the Coyotes on another turnover on downs. Jensen would break free and scamper out to the right, outrunning his Coyote pursuers for a 29 yard gain down to the six yard line.

The offense stalled and were forced to give the Coyotes back the ball after their own turnover on downs.

Shelby took over at their own 15 yard line looking to get something going with time running down. Shelby started the fourth quarter with a couple of incompletions to bring up third down. Again, Doney was in position defensively coming up with another interception, his second of the contest.

The Coyotes would score on their next possession, connection on a 45 yard pitch and catch to make the score 40-18. The 'Beeters would take over at their own 25 on their next possession and successfully ran a ball control offense that would take most of the remaining time off the clock. Doney picked up 34 yards and Beck added 10 more on the 'Beeters final drive.

The No. 4 Sugarbeeters and Wildcats will get things underway at 7:00 pm in Harlem. The game can be viewed on the NFHS website. Chinook was led by Schoen's 283 yard, six touchdown effort in just three quarters on offense, but the senior standout also wreaked havoc with Coyote offense all night long. Beck tallied 64 yards receiving on four catches and added another 30 yards on the ground. Jensen completed 7-12 passes for 86 yards in the win igniting the 'Beeter offense early on. Sophomore Hendrix Doney added to the ground game late with 34 yards on six carries.

Head Coach Mike Jones assessed his teams Homecoming effort, "I thought we played well against Shelby. Our passing game was much better, and our decision making was good. Defensively we had two interceptions, and it was nice to see the young secondary step up after they went on a good offensive passing series. I think overall we played extremely well as a team."

Looking forward to this week's contest Jones had this to say, "Harlem is going to be physical and bring a lot of pressure defensively. We have to pick up blitzes and make sure we block. Defensively we have to shed blocks and make tackles. They have a couple runners who can shake some tackles and then our defensive backs have to stay disciplined."

Chinook sophomore Landen Beck hauls in a spectacular 24 yard reception in the first quarter setting up the 'Beeters first score of the contest. Chinook blitzed the Coyote defense for 466 yards of total offense in a crushing 40-18 Homecoming win.
