Harlem Head Coach Trenton Woodward and Assistant Coach Tony Blue-Gamble address Seniors Clay Adams, Chantry Jorgenson, Charlie Calvert and Even Doney prior to the start of the Wildcats home contest with the Fort Benton Longhorns. Woodward and his staff were pleased with job the group did in laying the first brick in a new foundation being built by the football program.

The Harlem Wildcat football team concluded its season this past Friday in Belt as they fell to the No. 2 Huskies 57-12. The season concluded with Harlem picking up wins over Poplar to start the season and a Homecoming Win over Rocky Boy capping off a fun filled week.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 2-5 record overall. For some it may be difficult to find the silver lining in a season like this but there were plenty of good things that happened to the Wildcats this fall.

Harlem was a very freshman heavy young team this fall. Everything those young kids went through this season. All the growing pains of learning what's to be expected from the coaching staff and what to expect from quality opponent on the field will pay certainly pay dividends in the coming years.

The coaching staff made numerous comments throughout the season regarding the four seniors on the team and were pleased with the leadership they brought to the team and the groundwork they helped lay for the future.

Supporters of the Harlem Wildcats and their sports teams don't have to look back to far to find a group of freshman that took their licks only to find themselves playing for a State Class B basketball championship in their senior season.

"The outcome wasn't always what we wanted but overall, I don't think any one of those kids quit. They kept fighting, trying to get better. That's a testament to them as players," said Woodward.

The Wildcats began fall practice with 28 kids out for football. Three left the team one lost his eligibility. The Wildcats traveled with 22 kids dressed to play and two injured that remained with the team to offer their support.

The team came together as a unit and really began to buy into the philosophy the coaching staff is trying to instill.

To that point, uniform turn was Monday after school. Coach Woodward had mentioned to the kids that he still works out and that the weight room would be open if they wanted to join him. Not surprisingly the interest shown was significant with a number of kids asking when and where it would begin. The weight room is the starting point for successful football players.
