December 21, 2022

The Turner Tornado girls basketball teams struggles on the court continued this past weekend. Friday in their home opener they welcomed the Fort Benton Longhorns to town.

Fort Benton got off to a fast start early on and the Tornadoes did their best to keep pace. The Longhorns held a 18-11 advantage at the end of eight minutes of action. The Tornado offense couldn’t buy a bucket in the second quarter and scored just three more points before the half. Fort Benton added 13 before the break to lead 31-14 by intermission.

Turner held their ground coming out to start the third quarter with the Longhorns but still saw the lead grow. Fort Benton took 43-23 lead into the fourth quarter and closed out Turner with a 55-29 win. Senior Dakota Krass and freshman Bridget Reed each scored nine in the contest.

Saturday the Tornadoes were in Chester to take on the Hawks. Chester/J-I took control of the contest right from the opening tip. Turner scored just four points in the opening frame while giving up 19 to the home town Hawks.

The Tornadoes steadied the ship a bit before the half, scoring 10 second quarter points, but still trailed 31-14 heading into halftime. The Tornadoes turned in a much better effort in the second half, winning the third quarter 12-9 and scoring 22 points in the half. When the final buzzer sounded it was Chester/J-I picking up the win 55-36. Krass led the way with 18 points.

Turner played in Dodson on Monday and will host the Box Elder Bears today as they close out 2022. Results for both games will appear in next weeks Blaine County Journal.
