Harlem Public Library Will Celebrate National Library Lovers Month with Chocolate

January 18, 2023

February is National Library Lovers Month, and the Harlem Public Library is planning a Love Chocolate. . . Love Your Library event to celebrate. The event is scheduled for Monday, February 13 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and they are seeking the community’s help so that the event can be a “delicious success.”

Library Director Colleen Brommer described the event as “not a program but part of National Library Lovers Month,” which is celebrated annually in February.

“We are looking for community members to bake and decorate chocolate cakes with either a Valentine or a library theme to be entered for voting,” she said.

These cakes would then be on display, and people attending the evening’s event would be allowed to vote for their favorite in a People’s Choice-style polling system. These cakes would then be given away as door prizes throughout the night, according to Brommer.

Another attraction for the night will be a tasting table called Chocolate Temptations. “This won’t be a voting affair, just a tasting treat,” Brommer stated. “Bakers are being invited to donate chocolate cookies, candies, or other chocolate confections for tastings.”

The library is further inviting vendors willing to sell Valentine treats for purchase. Because of limited space, these vendors will be set up in the Library Meeting Room, which can accommodate six vendors.

Brommer reported that three vendors had signed up as of January 11, so anyone interested in making their wares available should claim a spot as soon as possible. This is not a library fundraiser but a venue where local talent can gain recognition while also providing a service for anyone wanting to purchase a special Valentine gift.

To reserve a vendor spot or to receive answers to any questions, interested individuals are invited to reach out to the library via Facebook Messenger or by calling 406-353-2712.

These is no fee to attend the Love Chocolate event, which is being described as “family-friendly.” Additional activities will include a fondue table and a photo booth where people can take selfies or other commemorative photos. Assistant Librarian Carly Vauthier will also be demonstrating a couple of chocolate-themed crafts. One is a little mouse made out of Hershey kisses, and the other is a chocolate chip cookie created from torn paper.

With all of these “sweet attractions,” a person is likely to find something to love about Harlem Public Library.
