Come celebrate Love Your Library month at the Harlem Library “Love Chocolate….Love Your Library!” event February 13. Stop by any time between 4:00 and 7 :00 P.M. Activities include chocolate fondue, Valentine photo booth, chocolate temptations tasting, vendors selling chocolate confections and creations, voting on decorated chocolate cakes, and chocolate crafts. This fun event is free and open to everyone. Show your library some love!

The Book Challenge for February is to read one of the librarians’ favorite books. Come check out the display of Carly’s and Colleen’s favorites!

Did you know the library has a children’s area with all sorts of fun things to do? Why not curl up on one of the bean bags or on Mr. Bear and read one of the many great books? There are puzzles, blocks and other wooden toys, magnetic tiles, dominoes, a computer with appropriate programs for children and a tic-tac-toe table.

The Book Club is currently reading “Liberty Lanes” by Robin Troy and we meet on Mondays at 4 P.M. There will be no Book Club on February 13th or 20th.

Children and family programs include Storytime for children ages 0-5 on Tuesdays at 10 A.M. Elementary students are invited to After School Squad on Wednesdays at 3:30 to take part in STEAM activities. Lego Club for all ages meets on Thursdays at 3:30. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult.

The latest novel by Nelson DeMille is “The Maze.” Detective John Corey must make some decisions about his career when his former lover Detective Beth Penrose appears with a job offer. In “The Maze” readers are taken on a journey with Corey on a dangerous hunt for an apparent serial killer. As he comes to suspect the crimes may not be the result of the local police department’s incompetence, but something more sinister.

“Demon Copperhead” is the latest work by Barbara Kingsolver. Inspired by “David Copperfield” by Charles Dickens, “Demon Copperhead” is the story of a boy born to a teenage single mother. His father’s only contributions include his copper-colored hair, good looks and a fierce talent for survival. Readers are included in Demon’s journey through foster care, child labor, derelict schools, addiction, loves and losses.

Lynda Cohen Loigman is the author of “The Matchmaker’s Gift.” Abby is a successful Manhattan divorce lawyer whose beloved Grandma Sara dies. Abby inherits Sara’s collection of handwritten journals that record the soulmates she brought together as a matchmaker on New York’s Lower East Side in the early 1900s. Reading the journals causes Abby to question her career as she tries to keep her grandmother’s promise to a stranger.

Other new titles for your reading pleasure include “Blood Moon,” Book 2 of The Rising Series by Heather Graham and Jon Land; “Hard to Break,” a Michael Gannon thriller by Michael Ledwidge and “The Whittiers” by Danielle Steel.

The library will be closed Monday, February 20 in observance of Presidents’ Day.
