We've Got The County Covered

Harlem Library

The Harlem Public Library is ready for summer reading!

The theme for 2023 is “All Together Now,” and with this, the library will encourage collaborative efforts throughout the summer, and we’ll take a journey through past summer reading program themes.

We’re kicking things off with a family-friendly block party event, Wednesday, May 24th, from 5:00 pm-7:00pm. Join us for an evening of fun activities, including Bliss Ice Cream truck, decorating our sidewalk, face painting, visiting with local firefighters and checking out their firetrucks, sno-cones, and of course, you may register for our summer reading program.

Children ages 0-Kindergarten are invited to Storytime at 10:00 am on Tuesdays, May 30th -July 18th. We will read stories, sing songs, do fingerplays, and play during our hour together. Children must have a parent/guardian present with them during Storytime.

Children ages 0-Kindergarten will keep track of the number of books read/read to them. After 15 books, they’ll receive a gift certificate for an ice cream from Bliss Ice Cream. After 30 books, they will receive a gift certificate for an Italian soda from Schmuker’s. After 45 books, they will receive a gift certificate for an ice cream cone from The Corner Hub. At every 60 books read/read to, they will receive a free swimming pool pass. For each 15 books read/read to them, children will also be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.

Summer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) at the Library is a program specifically for elementary students. We’ll meet every Wednesday from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm, from May 31st -July 19th.

Children in 1st grade through 8th grade will keep track of the number of minutes read. After 30 minutes, they will receive a gift certificate for a small ice cream from Bliss Ice Cream. After 60 minutes, children will receive a gift certificate for an Italian soda from Schmuker’s. After 90 minutes, they will receive a gift certificate for an ice cream cone from The Corner Hub. After 120 minutes read, they will receive a free swimming pool pass. After each 30 minutes, the children will also be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.

Adults, including students in grades 9-12, will get their name entered into a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card for every book read between May 28th-July 21st.

Lego Club will continue to be on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30, June 1st -July 20th. All ages are welcome to attend, but children not yet in elementary school must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration begins May 24th during the block party. If you have any questions, contact the library at 353-2712 for more information.
