Blaine County Cruise Slated for This Weekend

June 21, 2023

The 12th Annual Blaine County Cruise is slated for this weekend. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Blaine County Fairgrounds’ Commercial Building on Friday, June 23, and Cruisers will depart Chinook at 9:00 on Saturday morning, June 24.

In addition to registration on Friday evening, other events scheduled are a Scavenger Hunt when participants will respond to clues, return with their proof of participation, and earn points towards their overall score with challenges on the Cruise route. At each stop on the Cruise, participants engage in challenges and accumulate points. The grand prize up for grabs is $1,000. At 7:00 the Chinook FFA will open the Grandstand Concessions Stand, and everyone is welcome to come out to see the drive-in movie Six Pack at dark.

The plot of Friday night’s comedy film will feature Kenny Rogers as a race-car driver named Brewster who gets saddled with a family of orphans. When Brewster stops at a gas station in Texas, he returns to find that his race car has been stripped bare. He chases down the culprits, who turn out to be a group of mechanically adept orphans, led by young Breezy (Diane Lane) and her brother, Doc (Anthony Michael Hall). When Brewster learns that the local sheriff (Barry Corbin) has blackmailed the kids into doing his illegal bidding, the race car driver decides to take on the orphans as his pit crew.

The following morning from 7:30-9:00, breakfast will be served at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. The entire community is again invited to join in this event sponsored by the Blaine County 4-H Foundation, which will be accepting free will donations for the meal.

Registration will continue that morning until 8:30, and Cruisers will depart from the fairgrounds in Chinook at approximately 9:00. The convoy of classic cars and other participating vehicles will progress in the direction of Chester. The actual destination of the first stop will not be revealed until departure time. After each stop with its challenge to complete, the next stop will be announced so as to prevent anyone from trying to leave early.

After the day’s events, everyone will reconvene at the Blaine County Fairgrounds for dinner, awards, and both live and silent auctions. Auction items will be available for viewing on Friday evening. At dark, the drive-in movie The Dukes of Hazard will be shown, and the Chinook FFA will again offer concessions.

Organizers of the Blaine County Cruise thank their major sponsors: Miller Motors, Moxley’s Excavation, and Red Rock Power, Incorporated. Last year’s event saw fifty-nine individuals register cars to participate. A similar turn-out is planned for this weekend.
